Born Christmas day and raised in Ada, Oklahoma - Deek Moore grew up with a healthy dose of old country, primarily Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard (some of his dad's fav's) and other than the "Eagles" didn't know that any other music existed. "Hee haw" and the Grand Ole Opry were staples in his household, leaving Deek with no choice but to appreciate and love country music.
His first singing debut was at the age of 3 - when he performed "Good Hearted Woman" without missing a note for his sunday school class. According to his mother, the following took place:
"When Deek was about 3 years old, I went to pick him up from his Sunday School class and found all the teachers outside the door laughing and looking at me. Needless to say, the thoughts of what he might have said in class were running through my head. One of the teachers proceeded to tell me that they had asked the children if anyone had a song they would like to sing that morning and Deek was the first to raise his hand. He proceeded to get up and sing "She's a good-hearted woman in love with a good-timin' man" perfectly. His teacher said he never missed a note and knew all the words. At the time, I was a little embarrased (mostly about his venue). What I didn't know then was that music would become a very important way for Deek to express himself for all his life." Deanna Moore - Deek's mom
With the influence of 80's hair bands, Deek was drawn to the sound of the electric guitar - and surrounded himself with fellow guitarists (such as the grandson and nephew of famous singer/songwriters Mae Boren Axton and Hoyt Axton)
and proceeded to teach himself to play.
In college, Deek concentrated mostly on the song-writing aspects of music with the encouragement of singer/songwriter Kin Vassy (who was noted for his work with "The First Edition" with Kenny Rogers and Frank Zappa) and the influence of complex writings by songwriter Jimmy Webb (who was the uncle of Deek's college girlfriend.)
After years of writing and playing songs in Amarillo for himself, Deek finally began performing for friends, and eventually came to Austin in 1999 with the ulterior motive of pursuing music. He found himself performing at open mic nights and acoustic gigs before finally releasing his first single in 2003 titled "Don't Tread On Me". The single was played by Sam and Bob on 98.1 KVET, and went into regular rotation -spurring the decision to record a full length cd which is currently being independently released.
While his latest cd leans more to the country side, Deek has made a conscious effort to leave himself open to different styles with his writings, and continues to expand his talents everyday.
