Johnny Edson was born and raised on the Texas/Louisiana border and his style reflects the musical gumbo indigenous to that region with western swing the dominant influence. His three albums of songs are a melodic blend of humor and pathos.
After a decade in the advertising business in Houston, Edson moved to Austin in 1974 to pursue a career in songwriting. He played in several bands, wrote jingles and material for other bands before going solo in 1994 with his self titled first album. His second, "Hobnobbin' with the Hoi Polloi," was recorded in 1997 and Edson's third CD, "a Spread Misere," was released several months ago. He also wrote and produced an award-winning documentary on Austin artist Helmut Barnett in 1989.
