Mike Clifford is an Austin, TX – based singer-songwriter whose music has been described as a cross between Texas honky-tonk and California country-rock. He has released 4 successful self-produced albums, charted 5 consecutive singles on the Texas Chart, and has been nominated for 4 Texas Music Awards, including 2011 Album Of The Year.  His CDs have gotten great reviews in the Dallas Morning News, Best In Texas Magazine, About.com, and many other online and print publications.

Hailing from the Appalachian foothills of Virginia, but a former resident of Baltimore MD, Los Angeles CA and Dallas TX, Mike Clifford’s music is truly the sum of his travels and influences, which range from Waylon Jennings to the Eagles to Radney Foster. You can hear the influence of those artists and many more on Mike’s current CD “Backroads In Bare Feet”, which was described in its first review as "A home run".  The 11 tracks on "Backroads" range from up-tempo country-rockers to heartfelt ballads, and everything in between. Along with his strong songwriting skills, Clifford’s unique vocal style sets him apart from both the traditional “hat acts” and the gravel-throated Red Dirt singers… his versatile voice is instantly recognizable, and well-suited to the wide range of styles he covers with his original music.

Clifford is also a multi-instrumentalist and played all of the bass, acoustic guitar, organ, slide guitar, and most of the lead guitar on "Backroads In Bare Feet".  A Texas resident since 1991, Clifford has paid his dues over the past 20 years in Texas honky-tonks and dancehalls, performing thousands of gigs in the Lone Star State and sharing the stage with artists like Chris Young, Dale Watson, Don Walser, Johnny Bush, Lee Roy Parnell, Rick Trevino, and John Conlee.  Clifford and his band currently perform all over the great state of Texas and points beyond.  For more info, please visit the official website www.mikeclifford.com

I have listened through "Backroads In Bare Feet" several times and I think it is Mike Clifford's best work yet and quite an excellent CD. My favorites so far are the title cut which gets the CD off to a great start and "West Texas Sun". Kudos to the writer, producer, acoustic guitar player, electric guitar player, bass guitar player, slide guitar player, organ player, and the one who did all the arrangements.....Mike Clifford! Some great contributions from George Strait's Ace In The Hole Band and Asleep At The Wheel members as well.

“The Heartbreak Grill And Bar” is TX honky-tonk music at it's best! Songs range from Rockin' to Ballads that will have you either craving a sawdust covered dance floor or getting emotionally involved in a well told story. (I get a little misty every time I hear "That Used To Be Me"!) Mike's unique voice, the awesome instrumentation and impressive lyrics make this CD a major accomplishment for an as yet unsigned artist! The addition of Pauline Reese singing backup on several songs as well as two duets was a very nice touch as they blend so naturally.

First time I heard 'That Used to Be Me' I walked around humming it for the rest of the day. This is a CD that evokes visuals of sawdust floors and couples in boots two-stepping around the room to steel guitars and fiddles. Always a good thought in my book! I love this CD!

Mike Clifford has followed up his last CD “All Night, All Day” with this new CD titled “The Heartbreak Grill and Bar”. The first track is the title track and is a perfect start to this classic country style offering. Joining Clifford on vocals is Texan Pauline Reese. Reese’s vocals mingle perfectly with Clifford’s on “My Heart’s Got a Mind of It’s Own”. Reese also collaborates on “It’s All Texas Music To Me”. Her strong, rich voice adds depth to the songs, without losing Mike in the mix. “It’s All Texas Music To Me” is a great retrospective of today’s music industry. The lyrics demonstrate the frustration by today’s artists, having to be labeled by the industry, versus just letting music be music. Overall, an enjoyable listening experience from Mike Clifford, with music that will translate well from the CD straight to the live performance.

If you like great honky tonk music, you're going to love "Heartbreak Grill & Bar" by Mike Clifford. This is the third CD I've gotten by Mike and I think his music just gets better and better. That's saying a lot since I really enjoy listening to his first two CDs, "Welcome To The Other Side" and "All Night All Day". Mike has written some great songs here, from the fun, up-tempo songs ("All Texas Music To Me') to the tender songs that tell of a lost love ("That Used To Be Me"). Two of my favorites from the CD are "Not Gettin' Caught"–we all like to get away with something now and then-- and "Family Reunion", which sounds like a lot more fun than the last family reunion I attended, but I think I recognize a few of the characters. I recommend this CD to everyone who likes good country music. Make sure you have your dancing shoes ready when you play Mike's music because you'll want to do some two-steppin'! I love this CD!!!
