For thirty years Steve Simmons has listened to the country musical of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Gram Parsons, Guy Clark and all those guys that could put a complete story to music. Those guys that noticed the things that your knew but really didn’t think about until you heard it in one of their songs. For thirty years Steve traveled the oil field roads, county roads and dirt trails of East Texas and learned to observe. “There’s always something out there to see and to write about, if you’re willing to slow down and see it.” Describing Steve Simmons as easygoing is an understatement and he is always ready to slow down and observe. So, after listening and watching for thirty years Steve decided to write. Encouraged by friends, Houston Marchman, Adam Carroll and Owen Temple, Steve has written about love, life, and growing up in a simpler time from the prospective of someone that has been around long enough to look back. Using his wife and family and his East Texas background as a base and having the benefit of Robert Keen, Townes Van Zandt, Ray Hubbard, Jerry Jeff Walker to listen to and learn from, along with a whole bunch of new young writers. Steve has tapped into a folk/country songwriting perspective of a man who’s a fairly new singer/songwriter but fairly long on experience and subject matter. With Steve's second project, Texas Calling Me Home, he still uses his keen sense of his surroundings to write songs that draw pictures of life's everyday happenings that one might overlook if they're not paying attention. The title tract has the makings of a true Texas standard. "Tramp Stamp" and "My Baby Can't Drink Wine" are just fun tunes about what many think but probably would never say. "Rain" and "White Cotton Gown" are true to life love songs and "Company Man" gives a stark picture of the desperation that hard luck can inject into life. True to his roots, this album is still about the song.

A must for those who appreciate great music with feeling. Steve displays the raw talent that few singers today are able to capture. The CD is done in a "Texas Way". By that I mean you can actually feel the songs. Would liken to Pat Green, Robet Earl Keen, Jerry Jeff Walker. Good job, good CD.

Steve has a talent for seeing what everyone else just takes for granted. He focuses in on the thoughts we all have and expresses them in words which end up in song. Great words and good times Loved the album
