The musical voyage of Steven Roloff is one you've heard before: he grew up watching his dad play guitar and emulated him. Luckily, his dad's taste in covers were for “Mr. Bojangles,” “The Gambler,” and Robert Earl Keen. He was raised on lyricists. If there's one thing his hometown of New Braunfels, TX, has that outnumbers its river tubes, it's songwriters. Roloff learned a handful of chords and sat down with those songwriters at the Old Ice House on Tuesday nights. “My first few trips to the Old Ice House were humiliating, but everyone was nice and would sing and strum with me,” Roloff says. “Jack, the owner, and Willie, the host, never let me give up and kept encouraging me to pursue my musical dreams.”
Roloff surrounded himself with some of the finer wordsmiths of the area, including James Pardo, Daniel Thomas Phipps, Matt Harlan, Jordan Minor, JR Castro, Jackson Parten, Forest Wayne Allen, and Pake Rossi. He developed his writing listening to Ryan Adams, Jason Isbell, Bob Wills, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, and Hank, Sr.
Having now achieved the dreams of playing at Cheatham Street Warehouse, and with huge thanks to many contributors, releasing his own CD, he hopes to fulfill other dreams such as hearing his songs on KNBT 92.1 (in New Braunfels, TX).
Steven Roloff can be found playing gigs around New Braunfels at Billy's Ice House and Buffalo Wings and Rings, but he also travels to Colorado Springs, Steamboat Springs, and Pueblo. “I don't care if I ever appeal to a huge mainstream audience. I just want to write memorable songs. I want to get better with each song I write, and who knows – maybe one day write a great song. I guess that just depends on who hears it, how far it goes, and who is interpreting it.”

Steven Roloff's debut album, “Dream Big,” produced by Allan Goodman, was released in February 2014.
