by ROBERT(GD)WHITE 5/30/2006 ITS A TRIBUTE ALBUM,GET IT There will never be another Waylon I just get a kick out of people even trying to do his songs. He left us way too soon I saw at least 14 waylon shows well thats how many concerts stubs I saved.Dont talk the album down I am sure the royalties might come in handy
by chad 5/15/2006 The last guy is a jackass. First of all, if he's gonna talk poop, he needs to do his homework. He can't spell. His name is Bleu, not Blue. Second, Bleu has performed that song at his own shows for years. So if you like it or not, his band has practiced that tune to their best ability.
by James 7/18/2004 I can only give this album 3 stars because it's about half good, and half not so good. . . First of all, I really appreciated Doug Moreland's opening song and his good spirit when he decided to re-cut the tune. . . very funny, very real. Dub Miller talks too much smack. . . does this guy think he's funny? The most disappointing thing about this album is that it gets off to a bad start, because the 3rd track is one of the most awful versions of a good tune that I've ever had to sit through: Blue Edmonds definitely gets the award for the worst performance of "Never Could Toe The Mark." It was a toss up between him and Mike McClure for the shittist "performance," but since Blue totally missed what Waylon Jennings represented - which was country music - he gets the douche bag award. Some of these people on this record don't sound like they've ever sang a note in their life. I mean, listen to Honeybrown - yikes! Cooder Graw stumbles through one of the most soulless versions of "Rainy Day Woman." How can you pull that song off without a steel guitar? Gary P. Nunn does an OK job, but I couldn't get over the out of tune element-it was just hard to listen to. They should have called this the Waylon Jennings/Billy Joe Shaver tribute, because there's at least 3 tunes penned by the living legend. I was pleasantly surprised with The Burtschi Bros, Red Dirt Rangers, Susan Gibson, & Stoney Larue - mostly due to the fact that I hadn't really heard too much about them. I thought they did very tasteful versions of the late great country legend.
I think it's great that there was a good vibe created on this album, despite some major musical blunders and "artists" that don't know a thing about being musical whatsoever. Also, this album benefits The American Diabetes Association. All in all, this album has a lot more heart than the Nashville Waylon tributes did. There are some very talented individuals on this project, there are some that didn't belong any where near a guitar or a microphone, but in the end, a job well done by Cody and everyone that had a part in organizing & executing the event.
