Nominations for the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards have been announced and Randy Rogers Band was among the list of nominees.  RRB received a nomination in the TOP VOCAL GROUP OF THE YEAR category.  For the second year in a row, the winners will be voted for by the fans.  Make sure to support the guys from the RRB!  Tune in to watch COUNTRY MUSIC’S PARTY OF THE YEAR™ on Sunday, April 18th at 8PM (Live ET/ Delayed PST) on CBS and see who takes home the trophys!

Looking for a couple of good reasons to celebrate?  First of all, Happy Texas Independence Day!!! It was 174 years ago in 1836, Texas gained its independece from Mexico.  And it was not quite that long ago on the very same day, Lone Star Music launched it's own little bit of Texas history.  Today, LSM celebrates it's 6th anniversary doing business in Gruene, Texas.  That's right, eventhough we have been an online business for 10 years, our retail, Gruene location has been providing great Texas music and related merchandise for 6 years.  We would like to take this moment to thank everyone who helped make LSM what it is today.  And we look forward to another 6 plus years.  Make sure to come by, say hello and drink a cold Ziegenbock with us.  Whether you are a native Texan, transplanted Texan or just a Texan at heart, make sure to listen to some great Texas music and drink an ice cold beer on this wonderful day.

The Phoenix Saloon

will be hosting its soft opening with a performance by

  Ross Fortune and Debby Smith would like to welcome everyone out this Friday to take a look at the new place and enjoy some great Texas Music!
The saloon was originally built in 1871 and has lain dormant for 91 years.
If you haven't already peeked, the bar is a beautiful rendition of an old style saloon equipped with a full bar, seating, deep cherry wood, a dance floor and stage.  It is a welcome addition to the heart of downtown New Braunfels.

Directions:  Go into downtown New Braunfels and take the circle around to San Antonio St.  It is right there on the left, just down the road from the Brauntex theater!

Lone Star Music will be there to check it out and report back... or how about you go and see for yourself!

The Phoenix Saloon officially re-opens the weekend of March 5 & 6 with shows by Jesse Dayton (Mar 5th) and Billy Joe Shaver (Mar 6th).

Number 5 Cincinatti on the album titled Audio Guide: Cross Country Travel has been spinning in my cd player and I can't get enough.  It sets your mind at ease... honestly.  Whether you're looking for a new song to learn some chords to or a song to get lost in... I recommend this one.

Sounds like a pretty perfect Saturday for me!  We are just a quarter mile down from Gruene Market Days close to Gruene River Grill and the Mansion Inn (going outside of Gruene).  The guys will be playing all afternoon and the bbq will be available for most of the afternoon as well.  Store hours are 10-9 so come by and check out our new releases, wide selection of merchandise, and pick up an issue of Lone Star Music Magazine so you can vote for your favorite bands at the Lone Star Music Awards (steadily approaching...)

If you haven't heard about this amazing show tonight, you are surely missing out.  Radney Foster will be performing tonight at the Brauntex Theater in historic downtown New Braunfels at 7:30. 

He will be debuting his screening of a documentary he produced, "Behind the Confessions."  He will also be performing live acoustic, showcasing his recent album, "Revival."  His newest single, Angel Flight, made the top 10 GAC countdown and his album ranked in the top 5 albums of 2009 by USAToday.  I expect it to be a stunning show, as Radney is never one to disappoint.  I'll be sure to give everyone a report back about the show... or you could just spend that $15 and see for yourself!  Hope to see you there...

 Hope for Haiti...  

The need is still strong...

But "Who will hold your hand when the music's all gone?"

At the Help Austin, Help Haiti benefit this past month, a host of Americana and Texas Country Music greats came together at the call of Joe Ely to raise money for the devastating events in Haiti caused by two massive earthquakes.  As we have all heard on every news media continuum, Haiti is in a state of destruction and severe need.  Our lives have been flooded with stories of lives lost, families separated, and hearts broken.  And the toll only seems to keep rising.

But as I sat in that audience that day and listened to the artists pick their guitars and pour their hearts out to this cause, one particular line poignantly stuck out for me.  Guy Forsyth (whom at that point I had never had the blessing of experiencing and watching live and in the flesh)told a story with just a guitar and a careful placement of words and soul that touched my own.  His music was filled with faith, simplicity... virtually hymnal in tone but unexpected and refreshing.  His words rang so completely appropriate for the reason he and so many other artists, fans, guests, and supporters were there that very day.  "Who's gonna hold your hand when the music ends?"  And it hit me, like the sun coming over the horizon on a clear, winter's morning... When this benefit, when all the benefits and relief and heartfelt stories and breaking news fades, who will be there to help them?  This country was already in dire need for guidance, a hand to pull them out of the rubble and arms to hold them when they wanted to give up. So is this where it all ends?  

The benefit, spearheaded and organized by our very own Americana legend Joe Ely in just a one tenacious, diligent week, ended up raising over $3000 in just ticket sales alone.  But again, the need is still rising and the devastation is still ever present in the form of broken buildings, worried hearts, and shattered dreams.  I met with an individual who joined the benefit to raise awareness for an organization that has been intact for a number of years to give a voice and refuge to abused and abandones Haitian kids. 

The organization is called Haitian Street Kids, Inc. and is a 100% non-profit endeavor devoted to ending suffering and torment of abandoned and abused children and streetkids of Haiti.  These children, for years, have faced abandonment, physical abuse, rape, and slavery at ages as young as 4 years old.  Any assistance or donation to this cause could significantly change a young child's life.  The need is still great and the need is still there...
