Hailing from Stillwater, Oklahoma, The Great Divide is a grass roots working band that has met the country music industry head on with its work ethic, tenacity, genuine likeability, and hard-hitting style. Over the past ten years The Great Divide has steadily progressed the hill of the unforgiving music industry, proving not only their musical talents, but also their business savvy. In 1993 the group formed their own record label, publishing company and operating company, and began recording. The band's first two albums, Goin' For Broke and Break In The Storm, were independent releases. Atlantic Records signed the group and re-released Break In The Storm as well as the band's third album, Revolutions. After TGD asked to be released from Atlantic they recorded Afterglow, which was picked up by Broken Bow Records. Once again the band asked to be released from a recording contract due to lack of effort and enthusiasm from the label office. Remain, the band's fifth album was released independently at the end of 2002. The Great Divide's original front man left the band in early 2003. By late summer the band was back on the road with new lead singer and lead guitarist, Micah Aills. He hails from Washington Court House, Ohio, where he joined his first band at the age of seventeen. From 1993 -1998 He performed with Savannah Rose, touring throughout the Midwest and Southwest. Lately he has been concentrating on song writing. Aills has also let it be known he is a team player, not interested in being a prima donna of the group. This change in the line-up has been embraced by The Great Divide family and fans as a blessing that will allow their music to be taken from a largely regional popularity to national notoriety. Together the members of TGD continue to evolve as a band, expanding beyond the "Red Dirt" sound they helped to establish and for which they are best known. The band has always been known for its high-energy stage show and its honest, original music, which anyone can relate to. The band appeals to a varied population ranging from rodeo cowboys, college kids and baby boomers. The Great Divide is a tribute to the American dream as exhibited by the band members' undying belief in their music and their refusal to meet obstacles with defeat. As diverse as their music each band member brings his own attributes to the group, but it is hard to deny that a more salt-of-the-earth group can be found. There is nothing pre-packed or generic about this bunch either on or off the stage. They are the sort of buddies you would enjoy knocking back a couple of cold beers with or someone you would call in the middle of the night to pull your pickup out of a ditch. The combination of The Great Divide's experience, musical talents and new band member promises to push the group over the edge they have been perched on the past few years.

I used to think this band sucked until I heard their new CD with the new leadsinger. Now they sound like a band, with talent. I would have given it 10 stars if I could. Great album all the way around.

This CD was terrible - new front man needs to go back up North.. Without McClure - I think their doomed... total waste of money. One star was the lowest the pull down menu would let me give them or it would have been a ZERO.

Over the course of the past 10 years, The Great Divide went from popular Oklahoma/Texas band to a couple of Nashville labels and back to Oklahoma again. Shortly after their last album, 2002's "Remain" CD, The Great Divide parted ways with previous front man Mike McClure. The remaining band members, Drummer JJ Lester, guitarist/volalist Scotte Lester and bassist Kelly Green welcomed new lead guitarist and primary vocalist Micah Aills into the fold. While any change as difficult as one which sees the changing of lead vocalists usually is met with poor results, The Great Divide really seem to be more of a complete band here. They collectively chose the songs for the record and after being absent from lead vocal parts for over two albums, Scotte Lester returns to lead a few tracks here. Micah's vocals have more range than McClure's while also retaining a hint of the grittiness that drew me to the band to begin with. Lead single "Crazy In California" is as good as anything on country radio, while "Scared Of Heights" ponders why people are content to stay where they are. Scotte's vocals on "Can't Call It Cheatin'" are superb while two Chris Knight tracks, "She's Leavin' This Town," and "Love And Gasoline" fit the Great Divide like a glove. "Under Your Own Sun" is proof positive that a band can weather the tumultuous lead singer/guitarist change and come out as a better band for it.

Bought TGD's new album at the show in Weatherford and can't stop listening to it. The Plan is the best song I've heard in a long time. The entire album is incredible. What a great record.
