Houston Marchman is as Texas country as they come. That means he's lived it and he's got the poetry and the musicianship to tell it in a song -- a song that takes you with him to the heart of his experience. A lot of his growing up years were spent on his father's ranch in Meridian, Texas, and it was there that he soaked up the sounds, sights, and stories of ranch hands, small - town folk, rodeo riders, truckers, Mexicans, sweethearts, and broken hearts that come with the territory. By the time he was 16 his songs began to emerge, and he has been writing and singing ever since. One of his first professional gigs was performing in a wild west show -- as a bronc rider and singer. While touring Japan, Houston gathered enough material for road and rodeo songs to last a lifetime. Marchman followed up his rodeoing with 6 years in Nashville, writing and performing, and scraping by. The title song of his first CD, VietNashville, pretty much tells that story, like Steve Earle, Robert Earl Keen, Joe Ely, Lucinda Williams, and plenty of other talented singer - song writers, Marchman just doesn't fit into the Nashville country music mold. His sound is unapologetically "Texan." Now that he is back where he belongs, Marchman is performing all over north Texas backed by a hot group of players called the Contraband. The result is a hybrid sound that says something different in a world of formula, commercially driven music. This band delivers country music that packs the punch of rock, while it carries on the tradition of Texas Folk, conjunto, polka, and blues.

This is an outstanding CD from an underappreciated artist. By far, his best work. Very easy to listen to.

This CD is well produced and also brings out the deep Texas roots of this artist. It will probally be appreciated more by those who live or are from Texas or the southwest. In any case, this is a fine piece of work, by anybody's standards.

When I saw Houston Marchman in concert I had never heard of him. His concert was excellent and he took the time to come up to us after the concert and talk for a while. I cant wait until he comes back to College Station

Saw him at the White Elephant a few months ago. When he played he was good, but he spent too much time talking. At the start he was on stage for I bet 5 minutes telling a story before he played a single note. Play a couple of songs and then tell a story.

I am looking forward to getting a copy of this CD. I had the previlege of being at the Iron Horse the night Houston recorded this CD, and usually when people are recording live CD's they tend to be, "not genuine" not Houston. I have never had an artist come up to me, and shake my hand and tell me "Thanks for coming tonight, I really appreciate ya'll." I didn't go up to him, mind you, he saw us at one of the front tables during the concert and found us afterwards and said that. Houston is a true "Texas" artist and good guy.

Undoubtedly one of the most overlooked singer songwriters in Texas. Houston has been writing and singing his own songs for many years. You might know him for his anti Nashville anthem "VietNashville". Houston may not fill the dancehalls like the other artists but he still plays like there are 10000 people in the crowd. Live and Still Standing is his second CD that is "Live" The first one is so popular that he is sold out of it. "Live and Still Standing" has 12 cuts with his standard songs and some of his newest songs, Suzanne (named after his wife), Divorcees, and Not Tonight. You'll recognize the rest of the songs, if you've ever been to a Houston show. Still after all these years, Houston gives 100% to his fans, this one is not different. Great written songs by a true artist. Get a copy and take a listen.
