When Jack Ingram won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for “Best New Male Vocalist,” thousands of people in the audience had to be smiling to themselves about that whole “new” thing. They knew the thirty-something, steel-eyed veteran accepting that trophy on that stage in Vegas had been rocking roadhouses, theaters and stadiums relentlessly since 1997, that he’d been celebrated by critics and fans of hard-core country music for more than a decade, and that as a Texas-born songwriter and performer, he’d been on the short list of next generation artists who could fill the boots of Lone Star legends like Willie and Waylon and the boys.

But the award did mean that Ingram, after trials and setbacks that would have buckled other artists, had at last matched the commercial success he’d always wanted with the integrity on which he’d always insisted. So he told the crowd with no small measure of pride and triumph that night that “big dreams and high hopes” can come true.

Now, as if to validate and amplify that truth, Ingram remains in the forefront of country music with the album Big Dreams & High Hopes, the seventh studio disc of his career and his third for Nashville maverick indie label Big Machine Records. Its eleven tracks range through the many facets of Ingram’s unique take on country music and songwriting. There’s the textured and contemplative “Seeing Stars” sung in ethereal tandem with Patty Griffin. You’ll find a couple of superb roots rocking country songs Jack wrote with compadre and mentor Radney Foster. And you’ve probably already heard the swimming hole party anthem “Barefoot and Crazy” which quickly became a radio smash and a soundtrack for the hot summer of 2009.

I don't care if Jack has to sing "Happy Birthday" to get some of his songs out to the public, I'm all for it. This CD is great. Measure of a Man, Great Divide, Make a Wish, and Don't Want to Hurt are the highlights, but I think the whole CD is great.

Still a "pretender", not a "contender". How can Jack compare himself to Waylon Jennings? Waylon became famous for writing his own songs, not looking like a "pretty" boy and becoming an outlaw, not a Nashville "appeaser". Jack's new album is better than some Nashville stuff, but his music shouldn't be compared to that trash. It should be compared to real artists such as the very stuff thats in Texas. And for all the artists that have been looked down upon for not wanting to make it in the "big time", thank you for being true to the music.

Quality album. Not comparable to his material before someone threw "free beer" in his way as cited in Acoustic Motel. Funny how these "true texans" hate his "new stuff" cause he sold out. tracks 6-12 (sans 11) were written when he was with Lucky Dog records about four years ago before he split and started RAM records and definately before this Big Machine move. It's real bandwagon to call people sellouts now so I guess we should all jump on. What's next? "Stoney is a sellout for being in Lee Ann Womack's new video she's super-Nashville"

YEAH!!!!! I got my copy of This IS IT in the mail today. I have already listened to it 4 times. The more I listen the more I realize how well written some of these songs are. Make A Wish and Great Divide are really great songs with fabulous lines. By the way, Jack wrote both of these songs.

This Is It! is simply fabulous, the epitome of all Jack Ingram does so well. His humor, his story-telling songs, and his big hits, and a lot of emotion! Get this one!

This CD is worth every penny and makes up for all the waiting! I am so delighted with Make A Wish, the song Jack wrote for his son, and Ava Adele, the dear song for his daughter. What a sweet, sensitive man to share these intimate and tender thoughts in a musical way. I love hos Jack's soul comes through in his music. And his funny, edgy side is another engaging aspect of Jack, his music and his live shows. This Is It!!!

!?!?
I think Jack is a HORRIBLE artist and preson, I was at the Houston rodeo and he was a guest for Pat Green then "lucked" into being a fill in for another band that wasn't able to play. His show as the fill is was totally horrible, rude and if you had kids there like you should at a family function he was completly out of line with his middle finger up in the hair and nasty looks. He is a HUGE skum and I will NEVER buy a cd that has his name on it or support a function he will attend and I will be sure to let everyone I know do not waste your money for this man - he deserves nothing!
