When Jack Ingram won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for “Best New Male Vocalist,” thousands of people in the audience had to be smiling to themselves about that whole “new” thing. They knew the thirty-something, steel-eyed veteran accepting that trophy on that stage in Vegas had been rocking roadhouses, theaters and stadiums relentlessly since 1997, that he’d been celebrated by critics and fans of hard-core country music for more than a decade, and that as a Texas-born songwriter and performer, he’d been on the short list of next generation artists who could fill the boots of Lone Star legends like Willie and Waylon and the boys.

But the award did mean that Ingram, after trials and setbacks that would have buckled other artists, had at last matched the commercial success he’d always wanted with the integrity on which he’d always insisted. So he told the crowd with no small measure of pride and triumph that night that “big dreams and high hopes” can come true.

Now, as if to validate and amplify that truth, Ingram remains in the forefront of country music with the album Big Dreams & High Hopes, the seventh studio disc of his career and his third for Nashville maverick indie label Big Machine Records. Its eleven tracks range through the many facets of Ingram’s unique take on country music and songwriting. There’s the textured and contemplative “Seeing Stars” sung in ethereal tandem with Patty Griffin. You’ll find a couple of superb roots rocking country songs Jack wrote with compadre and mentor Radney Foster. And you’ve probably already heard the swimming hole party anthem “Barefoot and Crazy” which quickly became a radio smash and a soundtrack for the hot summer of 2009.

Whoa, let's get catty and keep Jack our lil' TX secret! Mean ole Nashville made him make bad music. If he made the same music in the Lone Star State it would be praised. The music is STILL good. Jack is one of best live acts out.

And me....I'm kinda vain.
He didn't get better. He just became like every other Nashville act. He hasn't written a hit song, just got handed some "hits" by a team of writers. I mean they'd be hits if 20 or 30 other people sang them, so I mean how has he gotten better? If you have a good vioce, those songs will be hits. Now I'll give him credit if he writes a hit....even if I think it's "nashville" music.....but he hasn't. So yeah...

Hometown boy does good,, from beat up ford to bentley, this one is really polished, no sell out here, funny how the better this guy gets the more someone wants to trash true Texas talent,

Wow, people actually put their true opinions on here. I'm surprised. Yeah jack has changed...for the worse. The best song on the album is probably coming home again, but the version on the album sucks. I have an acoustic version and its really a great song. But yeah its horrible and I used to consider my favorite artist. But I'm sure that the sorority girls will discover the a "new artist" taht has only been around for 15 years now boost his rating on this record to 5 stars. but at least we tried to get the truth out.

Why can Robert Earl Keen and Fred Eaglesmith become rich musicians without selling out, and Pat Green, Randy Rogers and Jack Ingram can't? Discuss among yourselves, but the answer is perfectly clear....

Not buying
Not my bag. I'll keep the old Cd's but not fuel the industry's buyout of our Texas Outlaws. At least we will always have Creager, Clark, and Shaver.

I haven't listened to the album completely, but after checking out the clips here...I have to say I am really disappointed. Pat and CCR are one thing, but the one artist I thought was sacred was Jack. Do I blame him? No way. He has a family and he is way too talented to not go for the money and the fame. Good for him and good for the new fans out there getting the watered down Lown Star music that was Jack Ingram. The great thing is that no one can take back any of the old albums. Biloxi, Beat Up Ford, A Song for Amy, Elmo Lincoln...these are the songs I will cherish Maybe She'll Get Lonely or Love You. Jack I remember when you could speak to me and bring me to the highest highs and the lowest lows...

It pathetic to see people rip a man from a posting on a website. Jack is living his dream while you live vicariously through him so don't knock the guy for selling some records while you sell used cars or ride a desk. You folks are just unpaid critics who know nothing about laying it all on the line.

What a disappointment Jack Ingram has turned out to be. Going from tearing the roof off the joint every Monday night at Adair's in Dallas (and beyond) ~15 years ago to moving to Nashville and sounding like a wanna-be Rascal Flatts. Pitiful. ...He ain't Texas no more!

Cant believe lonestar music even sells his new stuff. He found his place in country music along side his buddy Pat and left many loyal fans, such as my self behind in Texas. Jack just know that when ever your in Texas you will forever hear the chants of NASHVILLE SUCKS that Pat has grown to know so well..Welcome to the end of your career. "It ain't none of my concern, im watching your[career] burnnnnnn."
