When Jack Ingram won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for “Best New Male Vocalist,” thousands of people in the audience had to be smiling to themselves about that whole “new” thing. They knew the thirty-something, steel-eyed veteran accepting that trophy on that stage in Vegas had been rocking roadhouses, theaters and stadiums relentlessly since 1997, that he’d been celebrated by critics and fans of hard-core country music for more than a decade, and that as a Texas-born songwriter and performer, he’d been on the short list of next generation artists who could fill the boots of Lone Star legends like Willie and Waylon and the boys.

But the award did mean that Ingram, after trials and setbacks that would have buckled other artists, had at last matched the commercial success he’d always wanted with the integrity on which he’d always insisted. So he told the crowd with no small measure of pride and triumph that night that “big dreams and high hopes” can come true.

Now, as if to validate and amplify that truth, Ingram remains in the forefront of country music with the album Big Dreams & High Hopes, the seventh studio disc of his career and his third for Nashville maverick indie label Big Machine Records. Its eleven tracks range through the many facets of Ingram’s unique take on country music and songwriting. There’s the textured and contemplative “Seeing Stars” sung in ethereal tandem with Patty Griffin. You’ll find a couple of superb roots rocking country songs Jack wrote with compadre and mentor Radney Foster. And you’ve probably already heard the swimming hole party anthem “Barefoot and Crazy” which quickly became a radio smash and a soundtrack for the hot summer of 2009.

Not many other artist can consistantly produce great music one release after another. Unlike Jack's others, this one leans more toward Rockin' than Honky Tonk. The first 2 or 3 times I listened, I was uneasy with the new sound-- but then it hit. This CD, flat out, sounds great -- song after song. Jack and Band put together one of the best CD's of the year. Two years later it still ROCKS.

Some friends and I were fortunate enough to catch Jack's show in Wichita Falls,TX. Not only was it an extremely exciting show but one friend and I got to hang out with Jack and the band, and they are just a bunch of great, fun guys. They are so talented and they have their own style. Origianality (not to mention sexiness) is definitely their style. Thanks for being so great guys. Good luck!

Jack Ingram always puts on a great show. He is always kind enough to take the time out to stop and say hi to as many fans as he can. I have been fortunate enough as to get to talk to him 3 different times. I have turned many friends into "Jack Ingram fans" and have even recently given my little brother some of Ingram's songs to listen to. Jack sings and plays with a passion and a sincerity that I haven't seen too many artists have. When he ends his shows with "Goodnight Moon" the crowd is hushed and I always get shivers. I hope he continues to write songs and make fans like me happy.

Oh lord - what can I say about Jack Ingram. I had some of the best times of college at his concerts (1994-2000). His songs are the songtrack to my young life. Through everything shi-y in my life, I had these concets to look forward to. I owe my sanity to Jack and his band. Now - I'm in graduate school and genuinely happy. And every time I hear Jack - I go back to that euphoric place in College Station. I thank you for all of the wonderful times and I hope I can take my children to see you. (If I ever find the right husband!) Thank you Lindsey

I saw Jack and his band Saturday night at the Waller county fair. His band was good considering the bare bones approach to live shows he takes. I find it difficult to take a self professed country artist seriously if they don't have a steel guitar in their live act. Sound was provided by backstage sound out of BCS. They had a first rate rig with JBL spkrs and a Crest FOH board. Unfortunately, the foh sound man running the board was clueless and turned the sound into a muddy midrange mess that was painfully loud. The opening act had a much clearer sound using a separate sound system on a separate stage with a different sound man. Jack did quite well until the last third of his set, when it was clear that the multiple beers he consumed on stage had taken their toll. His speech became quite slurred and he had several rants about "That shit on radio". He repeatedly stated "My name is Jack Ingram, and I play country music". Jack finished the show and walked off stage. He came back for several encores in spite of a truly apathetic crowd at this point. Jack, if you really want to play country muscic, here are a few suggestions. First, get a soundman who actually has a clue. Second, play at a reasonable volume. Three, for heavens sake, get a steel guitar player.

Saw him for the first time ever, played at Einstein's in Lubbock. One of the best live artists I have ever seen, and makes sure that the crowd has a good time to. Come back to Lubbock!!!

True country music without any predictability. The only thing better than listening to his CD's is getting to see him live.
