When Jack Ingram won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for “Best New Male Vocalist,” thousands of people in the audience had to be smiling to themselves about that whole “new” thing. They knew the thirty-something, steel-eyed veteran accepting that trophy on that stage in Vegas had been rocking roadhouses, theaters and stadiums relentlessly since 1997, that he’d been celebrated by critics and fans of hard-core country music for more than a decade, and that as a Texas-born songwriter and performer, he’d been on the short list of next generation artists who could fill the boots of Lone Star legends like Willie and Waylon and the boys.

But the award did mean that Ingram, after trials and setbacks that would have buckled other artists, had at last matched the commercial success he’d always wanted with the integrity on which he’d always insisted. So he told the crowd with no small measure of pride and triumph that night that “big dreams and high hopes” can come true.

Now, as if to validate and amplify that truth, Ingram remains in the forefront of country music with the album Big Dreams & High Hopes, the seventh studio disc of his career and his third for Nashville maverick indie label Big Machine Records. Its eleven tracks range through the many facets of Ingram’s unique take on country music and songwriting. There’s the textured and contemplative “Seeing Stars” sung in ethereal tandem with Patty Griffin. You’ll find a couple of superb roots rocking country songs Jack wrote with compadre and mentor Radney Foster. And you’ve probably already heard the swimming hole party anthem “Barefoot and Crazy” which quickly became a radio smash and a soundtrack for the hot summer of 2009.

Jack Rocks! Friday's show in Fayetteville was absolutely one of the best shows I've ever seen. I've seen dozens of people perform live, but none stack up to the kind of show Jack gives. I've never seen an artist just unplug so enthusiastically and come down into the audience and sing his heart out so that the audience feels like they've gotten they're money's worth! Keep Rockin Jack!

Ingram has Earle and the soft tunes of Ely on his hip pocket and carries a haggardesque Texas in his hands. Hopefully Nashville won't take Earle and Ely out and substitute a label and a list of their songwriters for him to record. Keep the flutter in your heart and listen to one great artist.

All of your shows have been awesome, but your show @ The Continental Club in Austin on July 27th was the best I've seen so far. I'll be @ Antone's on Sept. 20th & @ The Lab in San Antonio the next night. Just can't get enough of ya! Biloxi from Hey You and Drive On from Lonesome Questions are a few of my favorites! You rock on the cd's, but kick ass @ the live shows! I stopped listening to country music a while back and I still don't- but you put a twist on it that makes me emphatically enjoy your music. Thanks for changing up the typical country music scene!! :o)

Since the first time I saw Jack Ingram play @ Stubb's a while back, I've been addicted!!! Anytime he's playing w/in 4 hours driving distance, I'm there! His shows are always different and always so amazing. His lyrics are honest/true and his scruffy voice and hypnotizing vocal quality is astounding and keeps me coming back for more of Jack! I've seen Jack Ingram play about 10 times now and I'll continue to be a loyal fan. Keep up the good work Jack and The Beat Up Ford Band!!! I've spread the word about you and you've gained quite a few fans by me taking them to your astonishing shows. Wish you played more often around the Austin area though- but I'll take what I can get!!! Your Dedicated Fan-

Just wanted to say that this music is great. I never really even listened to country until I hear Jack live. I still dont listen to country that much...nothing else sounds as real, but anyone can tell that this music is real country. Keep it up Jack!
