When Jack Ingram won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for “Best New Male Vocalist,” thousands of people in the audience had to be smiling to themselves about that whole “new” thing. They knew the thirty-something, steel-eyed veteran accepting that trophy on that stage in Vegas had been rocking roadhouses, theaters and stadiums relentlessly since 1997, that he’d been celebrated by critics and fans of hard-core country music for more than a decade, and that as a Texas-born songwriter and performer, he’d been on the short list of next generation artists who could fill the boots of Lone Star legends like Willie and Waylon and the boys.

But the award did mean that Ingram, after trials and setbacks that would have buckled other artists, had at last matched the commercial success he’d always wanted with the integrity on which he’d always insisted. So he told the crowd with no small measure of pride and triumph that night that “big dreams and high hopes” can come true.

Now, as if to validate and amplify that truth, Ingram remains in the forefront of country music with the album Big Dreams & High Hopes, the seventh studio disc of his career and his third for Nashville maverick indie label Big Machine Records. Its eleven tracks range through the many facets of Ingram’s unique take on country music and songwriting. There’s the textured and contemplative “Seeing Stars” sung in ethereal tandem with Patty Griffin. You’ll find a couple of superb roots rocking country songs Jack wrote with compadre and mentor Radney Foster. And you’ve probably already heard the swimming hole party anthem “Barefoot and Crazy” which quickly became a radio smash and a soundtrack for the hot summer of 2009.

Texas Road Trip sounds like a great line-up, but how can you put together a compilation like this, and leave out Pat Green's Southbound 35? Sorry, but that's unexcusable.

Jack Ingram is one of the best. His albums are amazing, but his live shows push him over the top. He maintains his own style and doesn't sell out like I've seen so many Texas artists do lately. He's the only guy out there that I would put in the same category as Robert Earl and Jerry Jeff. Does it really get any better than that?

We went to Gruene Hall last night to see Pat Green and REK, but left being bigger Jack Ingram fans than anything. Not only is Jack a SEXY man, but he puts on a great show, and actually seems to enjoy talking to the fans afterward. I'm jumping the Jack Bandwagon!

Jack Ingram actually deserves 6 stars. I have his HEY YOU CD and I think it is great, but to see him live turned me into a big fan. I have seen him twice at Gruene Hall, once with his band(and man can those guys rock),and last night he did an acoustic set. You can tell Jack has his heart in his music with songs like Biloxi and I would.Mustang Burn and Barbie Doll can bring a house down because they just rock. Jack stuck around Gruene Hall long after his set signing autographs and I thought that was pretty cool> Do yourself a favor and buy his Hey You CD(I am going to do myself a favor and buy his other Cds) but if you ever get the chance check out Jack and Beat Up Ford Band live you won't be dissapointed.

I HAVE WRITEN SEVERAL REVIEWS,however this time I have 2 questions.(1)Why is TEXAS BORN Buck Owens NOT listed on this site and (2)How many music fans have knowledge of his (pre hee haw days)his LIVE AT CARNIGUE HALL ALBUM RATES AS 1 of the best in music history and DON RICH plays vicous honky tonk lead guitar that has not been equaled since his untimely death in 1974 (and now with the tragic death of Eddie Shavers probably never will be.Buck certainly does not need the money but this piece of music history can be found by simply typing Buck Owens AND THEN SEARCH(WARNING DO NOT PLAY THIS MUSIC IN YOUR CAR IF YOU HAVENT HEARD IT BEFORE)YOU WILL /MIGHT run of the road. thanks for reading ROBERT WHITE

I saw Jack at Gruene Hall in March and I asked him to play She Does Her Best. After the show he told me sorry I didn't get to sing it, but I promise the next show you come to I will play it. WELL, last night at the Lab in San Antonio he made good on his promise. He remembered who I was and told me to wait around after the show. I think my husband was secretly thinking Jack was going to cut out after and go home and then my husband would be stuck with a very upset wife. Anyways, after Jack signed autographs he picked up his guitar and told us to follow him outside. My husband and I and two friends of ours sat on the patio with Jack and he sang She Does Her Best for me!!! He asked me why I liked the song so much and he told me why he wrote it. He then sang a new song for us that he his working on about married life. It was one of the coolest moments in my life. He was so nice and sincere and actually gives a rat's ass what his fans think. Just another reason why I think he is the MOST Talented artist out there!!! Keep it up Jack!!! You kick ass!!!
