When Jack Ingram won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for “Best New Male Vocalist,” thousands of people in the audience had to be smiling to themselves about that whole “new” thing. They knew the thirty-something, steel-eyed veteran accepting that trophy on that stage in Vegas had been rocking roadhouses, theaters and stadiums relentlessly since 1997, that he’d been celebrated by critics and fans of hard-core country music for more than a decade, and that as a Texas-born songwriter and performer, he’d been on the short list of next generation artists who could fill the boots of Lone Star legends like Willie and Waylon and the boys.

But the award did mean that Ingram, after trials and setbacks that would have buckled other artists, had at last matched the commercial success he’d always wanted with the integrity on which he’d always insisted. So he told the crowd with no small measure of pride and triumph that night that “big dreams and high hopes” can come true.

Now, as if to validate and amplify that truth, Ingram remains in the forefront of country music with the album Big Dreams & High Hopes, the seventh studio disc of his career and his third for Nashville maverick indie label Big Machine Records. Its eleven tracks range through the many facets of Ingram’s unique take on country music and songwriting. There’s the textured and contemplative “Seeing Stars” sung in ethereal tandem with Patty Griffin. You’ll find a couple of superb roots rocking country songs Jack wrote with compadre and mentor Radney Foster. And you’ve probably already heard the swimming hole party anthem “Barefoot and Crazy” which quickly became a radio smash and a soundtrack for the hot summer of 2009.

Last time I checked I am a guy for whatever that factors into my being a Jack Ingram fan. I am a Jack fan, but mostly I am a Jack Ingram music fan. As Jack says, "There are two kinds of music, good and bad, and I try to make the good kind!" And, by George, he does, night after night, club after club and album after album. This Is It! is masterful album, a rare collection of heartfelt ballads, rockin' and rollickin' songs, music to get lost in day after day. He is not afraid to express what is in his heart, he is not afraid to express his love for all he holds dear. And his music is rich and deep and memorable. And boy can that boy rock!! All Jack's old fans are delighted, and his new fans are in for a treat. Get on this train, folks!!

I've enjoyed Jack's music for about 10 years now and I gotta tell you, I wasn't too sure what to expect from this album ... Especially after hearing "Lips of an Angel." My daughter calls it a joke of a cover and I could care less for the video. Other than that one song, this album is everything and more that you would ever expect to hear from Jack. Yeah, it's a little more polished than the old stuff, but I've got news for you people -- It's supposed to be! If you're missing the old Jack just listen to "Great Divide", by far the best cut and my favorite so far. Way to go, Jack!

Jack Ingram's new CD, This Is It! is a super album, and for those of you who haven't heard it yet, full of musical surprises. I didn't know what to expect as he hasn't put out a studio album in such a time, but it is even better than I had hoped for. It is a very smooth juxtaposition of his old style and his new hits. I am very impressed and will recommend this CD to all. I can't choose a song that is my favorite as I keep picking one and then another....and then another. I do love Hold On with Sheryl Crow singing with him. But then All Than I Can Do is also super. And then.....see what I mean?

What a great CD, Jack! I love this new one, and it is worth the wait! My friends and I drove out to California and back and we never took it off, and most of these songs feel like old friends now!! By the way, his music is new to me and I am in love with this guy!!!

One great CD, and a true professional product. I am impressed with how Jack keeps his original sound and stays true to his roots, but puts out a high level of music. His radio hits just line up on this on and contribute to the whole package!

Jack Ingram is my guy, and This Is It gets all 5 stars!! What a great CD, and such sweet country songs. I am gratified that Jack still sings the same kind of music that I loved when I first heard him, but he has added a bunch more songs and is still a rocker, too!! I will be a fan for life, I guess!

Oh my! What a superb work of art! It is great to celebrate what is happening for Texas jack as he heads on up the career ladder. He manages to respect his style and his spirit and still incorporate some new stuff. I for one love the sweet ballads, the expressive songs for his daughter and his son, and his West Texas ode. This guy is Texas through and through, but he is attracting more attention these days. It is great at his concerts to see the older folks, the fans who know him from the radio, and some who are now discovering his gifts. And then, us, his old fans, singing along and cheering!! This album is significant. Good job, Jack!!
