What an amazing artist and album. Such a distinctive voice and delivery makes Sam stand out amongst singer songwriters from any era. Wonderfuly evocative lyrics. It just gets better every time I listen to it.
Absolutely Fantastic. I think that is all I need to say.
Sam is great and extremely kind...... and I do look forward to the next CD.
I cannot stop listening to this CD. 5 stars is not enough. Sam has the ability to reach your heart and soul. The music and the lyrics perfectly complement each other to create a mood and a place you don't want to leave. The CD is incredible, but if you get a chance to see him live - you will experience one of the most moving events of your life.
I am a hardcore music fan, I'm also a musician trying to do this very same thing, but guys like Sam Baker make me want to quit. I found the cd here on LSM, I listened to a few tracks, after I read the part about (if you like John Prine or Todd Snider) I think this is the best stuff I've heard in a long, long, long, time...and I chase this stuff nonstop. I will never forget where I was the first time I heard Sam Baker.
I hope get to play with you sometime.

OMG THIS CD ROCKS... SAM IS THE BEST SONGWRITER IN TEXAS... THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS SITE... I WOULD HAVE NEVER FOUND HIM AT WALMart OR THE OTHER "SO CALLED" MUSIC STORES... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK....
The first time I heard Guy Clark sing "Let Him Roll" I just about cried. The first time I heard Sam sing "Waves" I did.
This is powerful stuff. You won't want to miss it.
I saw Sam in Fredricksburg, with Walt Wilkens, over a year ago, Walt introduced him by saying when he heard Sam's music, he knew he had to record him. Sam was nervous and I could see that he was not used to playing in front of a crowd. He stared to play and the words he sang were pure story. I was blown away. I've been listening to Prine since I was a kid. Prine opened up storytelling music to me - an avowed rocker. What I heard from Sam was as fresh as when I first heard Prine in 1971, and I have been wrapped in music stories ever since then. Sam is one of the best I have heard in those 34 years. You need to buy his album. By the way Walt ain't bad either.
Heard him first on the Bob Harris show (Radio 2) and stopped the car to record the details - arrived home and bought the album on the net. great discovery! About to order another album for a good friend who I think will appreciate it. We are fans of singer song writers like John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, Dylan, John Prine, Willie Nelson, John Prine, Steve Earle, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Guy Clarke, John Prine, Todd Snider etc
This is electrifying. If you buy one album this year make it this one. Genuinely different and refreshing.
