Bandera Music Hall of Fame induction this Sunday
10/12/2010

from the Bandera Bulletin on banderabulletin.com

In a year of firsts, the Bandera Music History Project and Hall of Fame's new voting membership will induct six musicians and one venue as their newest honorees on Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. behind its home at the Bandera County Library.

Living Legend, Johnny Miller, Musician of The Year, Walter "Tooter" Ripps, Duo or Group, The Gibson Sisters, Vocalist, Charlie Robison, Songwriter, Bruce Robison and Legendary Venue, The Silver Spur Dance Hall, all have indicated they will be there to accept their awards and perform.

The versatile and popular Jody Jenkins Band from Medina will be on hand to play and back up the performers. Well known to Bandera audiences from previous performances at the Cabaret and other nearby venues, Jenkins has been on the corporate circuit the last few years. With a new CD, "Under A Texas Moon" and a new single, "Boys Night Out," he's back in the venues to the delight of his fans. He will be appearing at the 11th Street Cowboy Bar over Hunters' Weekend and his full schedule can be found on his website, www.jodyjenkins.com.

Inaugurated in 2005 with the induction of Arkey Blue as its first Living Legend, the BMHF exists to recognize, record, honor and award the music and musicians of Bandera County. In the past five years, over twenty people, bands and venues have been honored. A corner of the library is dedicated to them and the Hall of Fame itself. An electronic, computerized "jukebox" is available for anyone to listen to the music that made Bandera famous, along with photographs and memorabilia like Larry Nolen's guitar and Wilton Crider's boots.

In addition to opening nominations and voting to the new membership, the BMHF committee also moved the induction event to a later date and time in the hope of cooler weather and to better accommodate fans and musicians alike. The event is free to the public and food and drink will be available, as well as a CD showcasing Bandera talent, and other BMHF merchandise. Expectations are for a large crowd and space is limited, so arrive early and bring a chair to ensure a seat.
