When you think of Austin, Texas -- which likes to be referred to as the "Live Music Capital of the World" -- retro-futuristic synthesizer funk isn't really what springs to mind.
Ghostland Observatory is charting new territory for Texas music. They do keep one Texas tradition intact, though -- the live show is pretty much the whole point. The two-man band is coming to Pittsburgh for back-to-back shows at Mr. Small's Theatre this Friday and Saturday night.
"A simple way to put it would be 'psychedelic electronic rock,' " says Thomas Ross Turner, Ghostland's producer/drummer/keyboardist, who usually wears a cape onstage. "There's elements of electronic music, psychedelia, rock and roll, minimalism. That kind of captures it all in one bag."
