Sam's Burger Joint
Venue Review
I don't know what the 2 stars for Sam's means. When they started doing Americana the place is kicking. Yes some shows are smaller, but if you call Bob Schneider, Micky and the Motorcars, Dale Watson, The Gourds and many others just average then I don't know what you want. By the way if you go to Gruene Hall or Floores get there early because if you are more 20 away from the stage you will not be able to see anything. Sam's has a very high and large stage where everyone can see and a place to sit in a real booth. It is a music club and not a shed like these other venues.

The best I can surmise is that Sam's Burger Joint started having Americana music just within the past year, but they still have a ways to go before they get it right. I have been there for 5 or 6 shows and it's always the same: never more than 20-25 people in attendance, the sound is good but there is no "life" in the room to inspire the players. Sam's also seems to book a lot of the same mediocre acts over and over again, and often times as solo acoustic shows. Though to their credit they did recently have Band of Heathens. The place shows some promise but they need to woodshed a little bit first. In the meantime I'll spend the extra gas money to make the drive to Gruene Hall or Floores instead.

This place was voted best place in San Antonio to see live music and they are booking great bands there with live music 4 or 5 nights a week. It is the Gruene Hall of San Antonio and getting better all the time. It is a must place to see a show. I hear they are going to start Texas Tuesdays and due Texas music on Tuesdays year round. Awesome.....

This is the best music room in San Antonio. I went out there for the Chris Holzhaus benefit and saw Eric Johnson and Delbert McClinton in one day. It was huge with a zillion people in there. The staff was on top of everything with great food and great drinks. The place has great sound and comfortable tables to sit at and enjoy a show. Also, has a great elevated stage so everyone can see the show from anywhere in the room. So glad they have started doing Texas Music. I am going to every show.

This is the best music room in San Antonio and now they are doing Our Kind of Music. It is awesome with Wednesday Texas Country and Southern Rock. Best sound in town and Express News rated food with beer and a full bar. No other Texas music venue in SA can compare for location and options. A must go to see a show.

Sam's Burger Joint has it all. good food, great music, patio dining, full bar& a very family friendly atmosphere. Actually being 2 businesses in one the restaurant is totally separate from the live music venue. However you can take your food into the show, so long as you've paid your cover. Both the restaurant & venue have full bars. Plenty of parking around the place especially since it's right next to 281N @ Grayson & Broadway. you can actually park under the highway. Inside it has the perfect balance of seating & dance floor, a high stage, great sound system, lights, 2 big screens, 4 tv's one of which is by the back bar so you can still watch the show while your getting a drink. not every night is for everyone, they have a very diverse format but just about every month anyone will find 2 or 3 shows they'd like. the most detailed info available for show schedules is at the website www.samsburgerjoint.com
