Les Lewellyn singer, songwriter, producer, guitarist, keyboardist, bass player and engineer. I was born in San Angelo,Texas almost fifty years ago and got hooked on music at a very young age. I've kept up with it all of my life and didn't stay stuck in the sixties. My taste in music is eclectic to say the least. I'm a huge Audioslave fan as well a Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, Rage Against the Machine, R.E.M., Slipknot and the Vines for example. My father was a military carreer man and we moved like gypsy's from city to city about every two to three years as I was growing up. We even got to live overseas in Naples, Italy for three years which was way too cool for words. We use to camp in the caves over looking the Bay of Naples that had once been manmade by the Nazis hide tanks and snipers waiting to destroy the enemy that came within range. We'd build fires and play guitars, harmonicas, tamborines, sing and drink the cheapest wine on the planet...homemade for about 16 cents a bottle at the time. It was a great experience to live in Europe and see how others lived. The Italian people were all very nice as long as treated with respect. That's what it's all about... R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!!! Anyway under the influence of two older brothers who took up guitar playing when I was eight and an older sister who was a Beatles fanatic and into the Motown sound, I was exposed to a lot of hip music. My parents were country music lovers and that was playing on their Hi Fidelity reel to reel and turntable while in my bedroom I played the hand me down rock and soul 45's from my older siblings on a mono player. I fell in love with rock music and have followed it up until the present day. The first album I ever purchased with my own money was "Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum which featured the great guitarist Robin Trower. I began playing bass guitar at a fairly late age of 24 in an all original group that after many names and personel changes finally became the Jukin' Lizards that received airplay across the nation and overseas on alternative stations in the late eighties. The Jukin' Lizards spent many hours together sharing our musical abilities and stretching our boundaries. I'll never forget the band. I was fortunate enough to have been taken under the wing of my brother Bob who is a fantastic guitarist. After the band disbanded I began to play the six string, write songs and work on my singing. In the early nineties I began touring as a solo artist at Native American Pow Wows and festivals across the east coast that were put on by Jimmy Boy Dial and released a cassette tape album called "A Cry For Vision" that was distributed by Sunshine Records out of Canada. My music carreer took a screaching halt when my wife was diagnosed with a deadly disease, AutoImmune Hepatitis which is attacking her own liver and I was forced to quit the unstable life of a touring artist and go back to my trade as a printing press operator to add stability to our lives.. However, during that time I continued to write, record and produce songs that ended up with close to a 100,000 download/plays at the now defunct Mp3.com. With the help of Indie artists from all over the world we were able to do online fundraisers and CD compilatioins and continue to do some in order to help Dixie maintain a certain quality of life with her medicine. Recording in Iowa onstage at the Mucky Duck with Circle of Friends. Playing at the Hideaway on Dunvale Recently my wife, Dixie, who is officially on the liver transplant list requested that I get back out and play again before she possibly dies from liver failure. So on 9/22/03 I played my first gig at the Mucky Duck here in Houston which was a open mic. However on that same stage many famous people have started and it was a thrill for me to stand and perform there. Since that time I've played over thirty gigs and have more coming. I'll be adding a calendar of events so check that link for upcoming shows. I'm currently doing solo acoustic perfomances but prefer a band. If any of you reading this are in the Houston area and know a bass player, keyboardist and drummer who are looking for gigs and are dedicated please email me.

This is the review from the Freepress Houston. It is an exact copy as it appeared in the May 1st,2004 issue. Bare Bones Artist: Les Lewellyn Review by: Rob Loyd ([email protected]) Don’t overlook the guitar driven tracks found on Les Lewellyn’s new CD Bare Bones. He has included everything from the hard & heavy stylings of songs such as My, My Friends and The Little Things, to rock ballads such as Long Gone and Aspirations. I really dig the guitar work on this CD and am sure that you will too. The guitar work isn’t the only thing to dig about this CD though, there are some really interesting things going on in the background with the other instruments (which, by the way, Les is also responsible for) to other ambient sounds that really push the music into new realms of possibilities. Les has quite a range of musical tastes and these are readily apparent to anyone who takes a serious listen to this CD. The heart and soul of what he is attempting to express (lessons in life, love, heartache, and the observations of one who has been around the block more than his fair share) come blasting through to you. Whether straight up rocking, or taking a plunge into the more experimental Southern Rock thing, this CD has a broad appeal factor that will have something to offer for a wide range of listeners. It is apparent that Lone Star Records agrees with this sentiment, considering they just picked up Les as one of their newest artists. Lone Star can lay claim to many great artists (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Los Lonely Boys, and Tish Hinajosa just to name a few), and are sure to have another good thing here with the newest addition to their family of artists. Bottom line - go out and grab a copy of this CD, there is something for everyone and you are sure to not be the only one blasting this bad boy at those Sunday afternoon barbecues coming your way this summer. Also look for Les Lewellyn’s upcoming performances around town (where all proceeds go towards treatments for his wife, and background vocalists -not to mention one of the sweetest people I have ever met in my entire life- Dixie Lewellyn). So come on Houston, support one of our own and be one of the first to lay claim to Texas’ latest rising musical stars.

I bought this cd in Houston after seeing Les Lewellyn at JP Hops and I am not sorry I did. It's a rocking cd with cool vibes throughout. I cannot describe how original this cd sounds. I recommend it to anyone who digs an great Americana sound with a heavier rock vibe.
