Long Woodson is an Austin based songwriting duo comprised of Matt Long and Gunter Woodson. The two met at the University of Texas and were drawn to each other by a love of the guitar and by an admiration of each others ability to continuously come up with new and unique song arrangements. In addition, the two found that they shared a dedication to creating quality lyrics to accompany the melodies of their songs. After college, Gunter formed and played in a number of bands before starting the rock inspired Juan Hitter, which Matt joined as bassist. Matt and Gunter quickly fell back into their old tit for tat routine of song writing and produced over 30 songs in the two yeas they played with Juan Hitter. In 2007, Juan Hitter split up, and Matt and Gunter formed a new group called Long Woodson, with the goal of writing concept albums centered less on the gritty sound of rock and more on the calming sound of acoustic guitar with harmonizing vocals. In six months time, the two produced the Girl Upstairs album. Matt credits his influences in writing the album to JJ Cale, Elliott Smith, Nick Drake and The Beatles, while Gunter credits G]Love, Jack Ingram, Kris Kristofferson and The Rolling Stones. Girl Upstairs is the only official Long Woodson recorded CD to date. However, Long Woodson already has another concept album written called Robyville based on an imaginary west Texas town inspired by the artist community of Marfa, Texas. This album will be recorded in the fall of 2009.
