Emerson once wrote, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” And if there was ever a band that could be defined by those words, it would be Mama Sweet. Dedication, hard work, and pure energy are just a few other ways of describing one of the hardest working bands in this genre. The band consists of four very talented guys. Mama Sweet is vocalist and rhythm guitarist Aron Holt, lead guitarist Alan Orebaugh, drummer Giovanni Carnuccio, and bassist Boyd Littell. . . Where did the name come from? Aron explains that . . . the “mama” comes from meeting at mom’s house every so often and her welcoming them with her famous sweet tea. . . “It represents us at our core, in our rawest form. If you are from the South, there two things you can relate to; homemade sweet tea and remaining true to your roots. That is Mama Sweet.” Believing that roots are where the soul is, I believe Mama Sweet has an advantage in songwriting. They are big believers in family and the stories that unfold throughout their lives. And it shows in songs that will make up their first debut CD, Welcome to the Well. Songs like “Truck Stop,” “Angels and Devils,” and my personal favorite, “First Last Stand,” have proven to be the distinctive songs that make an immediate impact on a listener. As up and comers, others have faithfully followed these guys, knowing each show will continue to give them that satisfaction of being taken to another level. . . Mama Sweet, with such strong convictions in their songs, is going to be a great addition to the Red Dirt/Texas family. Aron’s soul-capturing vocals, Alan’s truly amazing guitar licks, Giovanni’s non-stop energy, and Boyd’s welcoming flare, are just a few things that will help this band be a big part of the movement that has many of us hooked for life. Oh how sweet it is!

Saw Mama Sweet tonight at THE DELI. Phenomenal Band who will be blowin up soon I can guarantee it. Look for em now while some people still don't really know about em. Can't really describe their sound. It truly is unique, and you just need to experience it for yourself.

There are few bands that possess that rare quality which allows them to bottle the energy from a live show and display it on a cd. Mama Sweet is one such band. Anyone who has ever had the privilege of seeing them live knows how electrifying they are. From Alan's artwork on the guitar to the way that Aron connects with every member of the audience, all of it is captured on "Welcome To The Well". I highly recommend this cd to anyone. You will not be disappointed!

A friend of mine had their cd playing, and I had to get one of mine own. I had the opportunity to see them at a small local bar, and they were fantastic. It was actually an acoustic show, I felt like they were singing to me. I have their songs playing in my head all day, it helps me get through the work day. I can not wait to see them again. Also, they are so nice and down to earth.

I am not one to write reviews, but this album made me change my mind. I picked up this album at a local store after seeing an article in the paper. The album is definitely not what I expected. In an age where so much of the red dirt music sounds the same, this album stands out. The lead vocals are unique and and the guitar licks are completely unexpected. They show true talent and expertise. The album takes you to so many different places, that it is perfect for any mood. I simply can not express how great this album is!

I have to agree with all the others. This is one of the best CDs I have purchased in quite awhile. It hasn't left my CD player since I got it! The songwriting is amazing and the music will give you chills. I can't believe this kind of music is coming from a band I found by accident. Trust me, you have to have this CD!

I picked Mama Sweet from the soundsamples on Lonestar and ordered this one. No regret, I own it only two days, and I can't stop listning. I agree with Ryan. the divers of the songs is great! Some slow ones (listen!) and the uptempo ones. This one earns a place at the homepage: What's Hot!!

This CD is amazing, esp. considering it's their first. It has an amazing variety of sounds and song types, something for everyone to love, and yet, the songs are done so well, you will find that you like songs you didn't even expect to at first. Intelligent, insightful lyrics. I love every single track. If you are not into heavier stuff, don't be discouraged by the first 3 songs, you are going to love 4-13, and then circle back to others and I promise they will grow on you. WELL worth the $14, although if you catch them in concert, you can get it for $10 ;)

A friend of mine in Oklahoma turned me on to Mama Sweet about 4 months ago. Went to a couple shows and couldn't wait for the cd to be released. I bought it and loved every track. All of them sounded amazing and just as good as the live show. Get out there and buy the cd and catch them when they're in town! Personal Favs: Virgin in the Fire, Prettiest Girl at the Dance, and Whiskey Breath.
