Texas songwriter/independent recording artist MARCUS DAVID KENNEDY has three albums to his credit and a trail of stories stemming from heartbreak to happiness. Strongly influenced by the Austin outlaw movement of the '70's, Marcus' songs are real, true to life incidents and tales of life on the road told in true troubadour fashion. Born in a small country town in upstate South Carolina, his career began in typical fashion. Playing mostly in country cover bands, Marcus wrote songs while developing his unique style and after completing his education, headed west the to the great state of Texas to play his own music in the state that had influenced him. The self-promoting, free-base central Texas scene suited Marcus and his music and helped him to further develop in performing and songwriting. But health and financial problems forced time off and the early '90's mandated two hernia operations and shoulder surgery on a body that simply gave out from exhaustion. Marcus was encouraged by established songwriters in Nashville, but after relocating his traditional, folk, roots sound fell on deaf ears. After pitching some songs with no luck, Marcus returned to Austin and continued promoting his music. The title track from his first album "The Old Dirt Road" was included in The Association of Songwriters and Lyricist Anthology "On The Road." His second album, "One Man/One Guitar" included the song "Texas Summer of '62", which got air play on such radio stations as KFAN 107.9FM in Fredricksburg, Texas. Marcus also gained ground by becoming a part of the Texas songwriters Radio Showcase "Humble Time" a songwriters show taped weekly in New Braunfels, Texas. He solely produced, recorded, engineered and wrote his third album, "Texas Highway". He also played all the instruments on each track. The tobacco farmers anthem "Tennessee Gold" quickly became a favorite and received airplay along with "Lesser heights", "Loving Me" and the title track, "Texas Highway". Marcus draws from a vast variety of influences including Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Ray Wylie Hubbard. He also credits songwriters like Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, Pat Green, Dale Wilson and Al Barlow with helping to "pave the way" for upcoming, independent songwriters. MARCUS DAVID KENNEDY is a member of THE TEXAS HERITAGE MUSIC FOUNDATION and is available for solo performances in various venues including coffee houses and home concerts.
