First-Time Nominee: Ryan Bingham

The Recording Academy asked this year's first-time GRAMMY nominees to collect their thoughts and share what it feels like to be nominated for a GRAMMY. Tune in to the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, Feb. 13 on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

I had just gotten home from a month-long tour through Europe when I found out about my GRAMMY nomination. The band had all gone home and my wife was still in Europe visiting some friends and family and I remember just being alone and thinking about everything that had happened over the last year. It's an incredible honor to even be considered for a GRAMMY, let alone be nominated alongside T Bone Burnett, who has been a great inspiration to me for a long time.

I guess in the big picture of things you think about it all — the music, the songs, life and love, friends and family, how you got here and where you came from. Always trying to just get some place so you can finally be there and when you get there you have to wake up and drive all night just so you can get to be somewhere else. I would have to say that getting here has been one of the greatest experiences of my life and there's nowhere else I'd rather be.

(Ryan Bingham is nominated with T Bone Burnett for Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media for "The Weary Kind (Theme From Crazy Heart)"; and also appears on the GRAMMY-nominated soundtrack to Crazy Heart. Bingham's third major label album, Junky Star, recorded with his band the Dead Horses, was released in 2010.)
