Q&A with Randy Rogers

August was quite a month for Randy Rogers. It started at Wrigley Field, where he threw out the first pitch at a Chicago Cubs game while in town to perform a benefit concert for Cubs pitcher Randy Wells. Later in the month, the band released "their Burning the Day" album, which is currently No. 8 on the Billboard album chart. Rogers and his band will perform in Houston in conjunction with the Texans-Cowboys game in September.

Q: How did you get into the music business?

A: In San Marcos. A bar called Cheatham Street Warehouse. They had an open mic on Wednesdays. I'd draft a song and I'd go down there and play my new songs every week. That's the short answer. The long one is I was 5 years old and fell in love with music. I started on the drums when I was about 11, 12 years old. To equate it to sports, it's kind of like knowing how to hit a curveball. It's something that God gave me as a gift. Music was a gift, and I chose to make it my life.
