Randy Rogers Talks New Album, Willie Nelson, and ACM Nod
02/16/2011

The Randy Rogers Band duet with Willie Nelson? If the stars align as Randy hopes, they'll work with the Reheaded Stranger on their next album.

"It's too soon to tell, because we haven't begun to really dive into the songs," Randy tells The Boot when asked about particulars. "I've always wanted to team up with him and would love to have it work out."

In the meantime, Randy is writing songs and plans to begin pre-production this summer, just as soon as their producer, Paul Worley, is finished wrapping up Lady Antebellum's next album.

"This is our eighth record, and we've never had a radio hit," Randy says. "We are at a point that we're just going to be us. When I'm writing a song I won't be thinking about a radio hit or a catchy tune for the radio. I'm going to write a record that we enjoy, that we will want to play every night. That's more important than a hit record."

Yet others in the industry think that Randy and his band are long overdue for big-time success. "Randy is another guy who's out there playing great music," fellow Texas singer/songwriter Ray Benson (Asleep at the Wheel) recently told The Boot, "and he doesn't always get the recognition he should."

Randy and his band are getting a little ACM recognition, as they have a nomination for Top Vocal Group. "I won't lie to you, it wasn't surprising," Randy says of the nod. "It's a huge deal to us, and something we are very proud of. It means a lot not just to me and the band but also the whole crew that make our 200 shows a year happen. We will take everybody to Vegas for this. My parents are going to come to Vegas, too."
