look, this guy is not good, he isnt edgy, his music is NOT catchy, its boring and annoying, i have seen him like two or three times and there was probably fifty people there for every show. he doesnt draw a crowd because his music is lame. and the reason i was forced to see him again after the first time is because when you are stuck in a craphole like stephenville aka "jessica's town" there is one bar that is worthwhile to go to and unfortunately he was playing AGAIN. so your options are limited!

I really enjoy Jarrod's concerts! I like the edginess that it brings, its not smoothed and polished like a lot of nashville's products. Also the negative comment that was left by a james .........I know this person and he was at the last concert in my town. So he must not dispise Jarrod too much, huh?

Well said, The Real James. After reading all of the reviews, and as Tracy said "we all have the right to our own opinions", I'd like to leave a few of mine. Fowler aspires to be the "good ole boy" that Jarrod is. Fowler carried Aqua Net and makeup in his bag when playing with Dangerous Toys in the 80's, while Jarrod was carrying a rigging bag to rodeos. As far as the "paper thin aww shucks veneer", I think Kevin is more guilty of that. All of his songs drip with the "cliche redneck" lifestyle that he must have lived while applying the Aqua Net & Avon before his Dangerous Toys shows. Try spending some time with Jarrod, talking to him after a show before judging him on his stage presence alone. Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing Fowler's success. He's a great performer and had enough business sense to see that he could pull off his "tried & true redneck" act. His songs are catchy and fun, but here lies the "disregard for the craft of songwriting". With maturity also comes experience. Experience will lend itself to creativeness. In the begining, all of Pat Green's songs were "beer, Jerry Jeff, beer, Gruene Hall, beer, Willie, Luckenbach, beer.... He is a much better songwriter now. The Dwight Yoakum comment was totally false. Jarrod doesn't wear the "nut hugging" tight leather pants, and huge concho belt. The way he holds and plays his guitar could be compared to Dwight, but I think that's as far as the comparison goes. He doesn't try to immitate anyone, what you see is what he is. I also agree with Tracy in that the guys criticizing him must be musicians with no class who didn't have a gig. "Can't sing"...??? Is Willie's voice the most beautiful thing you've heard? No. But he is a legendary songwriter, performer & business man. I like that Jarrod isn't the "frat boy". He's not Roger, Cory, Pat, Ragweed, etc., all of whom I enjoy listening to, and seeing live. He grew up on Waylon, Merle, Kris, Johnny, etc., whom I also greatly enjoy listening to. He respects them and what they did for the music scene back then. Hence the comparison to Waylon. Jarrod is a product of what he's grown up on, and what he's grown up doing. He is an amazing showman, and a great songwriter. His music isn't real country, it's just real.

This is the real James. . . the one who usually writes bad reviews to people that actually suck like Mike McClure. I don't bash folks like Jarrod, or the equally talented Brian Rung. I think it's a badge of honor to have a limited number of reviews on lonestarmusic.com. . . especially when the only bad things people have to say about you are arbatrary comments on your hair or who you look like. Consider the mentality of someone who looks at Jarrod and can't get past the bend of his hat or the length of his hair. I'm sure that John and the fake James like that Cross Canadian fashion show too much to ever give the music a hard listen. . . I remember when those folks were wearing the leather pants and shinny shirts long before they grabbed the 'pearl snaps' off the racks. I guess we should have hung out with them a bit more back then. . . but then again, we saw them for who they were. . . poor musicians. Well, excuse me for going off on the fashion tangent. Regardless of his attire, Jarrod's music has edge and attitude - Something sincerely missing in today's Texas music scene. P.S. This is country music.

I believe this band has a lot of talent...and it holds true through their albums! And obviously the people who reveiwed a little earlier must not know what real music is! (or they just could be a little jeoulous!...LOL) Jarrod has an incredible voice and is an awesome songwriter!

Sounds like a few reviews are from frustrated musicians, wondering why they didn't have a show that night! If not why would most of the people they lisen to be so supportive of Jarrod, and they have nothing good to say (or nothing better to do than stay at a show they weren't enjoying)? There are so many different styles of music, performers, and even fans. It is easy to criticize what we don't understand. Fortunately with maturity comes the realization that we all have the right to our own opinions. I'm glad you had the opportunity to express yours, here's mine. You want a singer, buy a Michael Bolton CD. You want country music with plenty of drive and attitude, buy a Jarrod Birmingham CD. Better yet go see a show, I've never seen a bad one!

I wouldn't hold the make up of a guy's audience against him, but you're right, he's just not that good. Can't sing, can't play, must be the mullet.
