Childish Things
This is my 2nd McMurtry album & I'll sure buy the next. I just don't have the words to describe how good this album is. 'See the Elephant' is killer & 'Slew Foot' w/the great Joe Ely is just as excellent. There's not a song on the album I didn't like.

The best damn singer/song writer/guitarist out there. Every one of his 8 albums is excellent! I wish he'd come to Upstate NY more often.

Not the greatest vocalist, but his delivery works for his songs. As good of a combination of songwriting/guitar playing as anyone on this site. We Can't Make it Anymore is as good of a political statement as you can put to music. Steve Earle should take a lesson...

Live In Aught Three
I picked this CD out of a hat--never even heard of this guy---absolutely blew me away--i would have loved to have been at these shows--theres just a raw energy that comes across in this CD that draws you in and keeps you coming back for more---I now own three of his earlier records and am dying to see him LIVE.....

'Too Long in the Wasteland' is a series of pictures drawn for your ears! Listen to this alone, on a road trip, for best understanding of the brilliant work displayed here. Followed up by 'Candyland', which again you have to hear to beleive it! Catchy phrases in every song. Do yourself a favor, buy them both. I did, went and saw him perform, and sure am glad! This is the Guy Clark of the next generation, and mobody gets better praise than that.

Another bad ass show. This guys all about the music. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough time to hear everything he's ever written. It's all GREAT stuff. Most clever lyrics ever. Good show for a Meth-odist...haaa

This man is a damn fine songwriter with a wit that is keen and stern. He has an eye for situations and truths and he is about the best guitarist I can think of. He has intricate, haunting, beautiful rhythms and scorching rock licks...owning a McMurtry album is the next best thing to a live performance, which is surreal and wonderful.

I'm not from here and I've been to Leveland. James is far more than a "beer salesman". He is a poet that knows how to rock in the tradition of the late, great Warren Zevon.

Most everyone appreciates Robert Earl Keen. If you arn't aware, James McMurtry wrote and performs both Leveland and Out Here in the Middle. They are his songs. Try getting Live In Aught Three if you don't have any of his music. So much good stuff.
