My new favorite Texas artist; perfect for beer drinkin' on the front porch.
This CD takes a little longer to really tackle than Max's earlier CDs, but that is a good thing. it is deeper, cleaner, and the songwriting is just wonderful. Strong recommend from me for anyone that appreciates western music, traditional country, folk music, etc.
Possibly the best album I've ever owned.
Max is probably one of the 5 best songwriters out there today. Up there with Lucinda Williams, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Robert Earl Keen. Seriously. He's the first songwriter I've heard who can articulate what it's like to be in your late 20's and wondering "if I'm being paid what I should..." It's like he's writing that song about your life exactly as it's happenning. Really sad that a guy like Max can have that much talent and not be a household name, but Toby Keith and (gasp!) Kenny Chesney sell 10 million copies...
i met max several years back in mansfield, texas. he had just released 'comfort in the curves'. i love that album! then he released 'wide afternoon' and it was awesome as well (although, i prefered 'comfort'...)! max's voice, lyrics, style---everything are awesome! and i don't even like country music!! 8-)
A friend recommended Max's music to me, and I've been hooked ever since. I just bought all three albums, and each one is better than the last! There are few artists who can blend poetry and music the way Max does. He packs more emotion, vividness, meaning, and double meaning in one song than others do in an album.
The live shows and CDs are awesome. Classic Texas dancehall music. Merch guy is a Jackhole.
I saw max at the All Good Cafe in Dallas, and it was very soothing. The cafe has two walls that are covered in windows. So when it started to rain and hail out side the cafe it felt like we were in our own little cacoon, 50 people in a very perfect invironment, listening with the rain. It was like the rain was part of his act. That night was one of my most pleasurable. Please come to Dallas more often Max, I know a lot more people that just couldnt make it that time.
