Mark is a great guy and deserves everything that comes his way. I have been a fan since I saw him open for Kevin Fowler at Wormy Dog last year. There are a lot of people who really dig what he's doing. The lyrics are fun and great to sing-a-long to. The people who love his music are into it because of the way it makes them feel. He writes about stuff most people from a small town anywhere can relate to. Nothing wrong with that. I'm a supporter and will continue to be. No need to over-analyze and insult what he's doing. He's just a good old boy singing about life.

Thanks for your message Emily. Let me make myself more clear since you have missed the point entirely. Mark sounds and writes like EVERY OTHER TEXAS MUSIC ARTIST OUT THERE!! It is not original. That is my problem with his music. The songs are cheap rip-offs of the same song over and over. Now, I think you might be implying that I have a problem with "party music". You could not be more wrong. Some of the best music ever created was party music, songs by The Rolling Stones and The Beatles and Willie Nelson. They wrote a ton of party music. I have no problem with party music. I have a problem with silly, thoughtless, third grade "pee in the punch bowl" music. "Party Foul" and "The Myspace" song, are you serious??? The music is unoriginal and the lyrics are hilarious, but not in a good way. I am sure he is a great guy and he drinks beer with you after shows, but that does not mean his music has any merit. This has been a hard lesson for a lot of Texas Music Fans to learn. Just because the bands drink beer with you does not make them a good band.

Its funny how there are indivduals that can not find any meaning in Mark's music. Obviously they like the ol' boring music that other TX music artists write. Mark's music is 'true', regardless of what other people think. Those who are writer/song writers are true. Not only is his music great, he is also an awesome performer.

I'm personally excited that there is finally an artist in this scene that is willing to make a statement. I agree that his music may not be classified as your typical "Texas country" and that's actually very refreshing. It's nice to have a band shake things up a bit and add a little excitement to the mix. To "The Truth"... whoever you are... if you don't like it, that's perfectly ok. You're probably listening to the same old boring, worn out album that sounds like everything else that this scene tends to produce. Mark McKinney's music truly is unique, no question. It may not be for everyone, but if you've ever been to a live show, look around at the crowd and see if you can find anyone not having a great time. Those guys rock the entire time without skipping a beat. I'm a big fan of what Mark McKinney is doing. There will always be some people that are resistant to anything that is different. I guarantee they'll all jump on the bandwagon before too long.

For "R. Davis", a bit of an English lesson. What you meant to say was "here", certainly not "hear". I hope that you have a better command of the English language when you write your "reviews" for whatever fly-by-night publication you work for. By the way, that begs the question, if you are a reviewer then why are you reviewing albums on a fan site?? Ah yes, Texas Music Industry professionalism at its best. I would also like to thank "Texas Music Fan" for his/her comparison of Mark to Radney Foster. Are you serious?!? It never ceases to amaze me the things people say in these reviews. I know that Mark is probably your friend or brother or something, but is he really deserving of that kind of comparison? Radney is a singer/songwriter/producer of epic proportions. Are you saying that a guy writing songs about "Party Fouls" is the same?? Time to take a step towards the light my friend. Both of you are exactly the reason Texas Music is suffering today. Its almost to the point now that we can no longer blame the artists for making this silly music, we need to start laying blame where it belongs.... on the people buying this stuff. They wouldn't make such silly music if there were not a marketplace with people like "Texas Music Fan" and "R. Davis" buying it. However, I do want to thank you both for writing in and helping me make my point, even though you are totally unaware of the fact that you did it.
