Farm Fresh Onions
At first I wasn't sure what I thought about the album. Then I listened to it a few more times and realized it was pretty bad. I could see where a new REK fan may like it, but everyone I've talked to who's been a fan since "Armadillo Jackal" was very dissappointed. This album's McMurtry redo wasn't bad, but far REK's rendition of "Levelland". Buy this one used. It will be available soon.

REK's new CD is GREAT! BUY IT! The show is still great too. I caught him in Houston earlier this month. But who the hell was that band that opened? Kinaflick or something like that? Who did that singer in the sunglasses think he was? Roy Orbison's alter ego? Bob, PLEASE don't torture us with that kind of crap again.

Artist Review
First let me say having grown up in deep East Texas (Huntsville to be precise), the homegrown music scene was always close to heart with such acts "River West" which has now become "Fish Spur". However, as great as those bands are, they all pale in comaprison to the man (who in my opinion) started it all. Now matter what recent Texas artist you listen to, they all owe homage to certain inspirational and pioneer singer-songwriters. And Robert Earl Keen Jr (will be referred to as REK) is at the top of that list. From the classic crooner voice to the bluegrass fiddle style to the South West Texas beat, REK does it all and then some. If you have never any other song of his, other than "The Road Goes On Forever", then you don't know what you are, missing. While the song mentioned before may be REK's "anthem", it is by far not his mainstay style. Then again, the wonderful thing about REK, is that there really is now mainstay style, maybe that is his style. I highly recommend that anyone wanting to listen to one of the greatest (if not the greatest) Texas artist of all time, then you should definately pick up REK's "Live #1", "Walking Distance", "West Textures", just to name a few. But hell, I suggest you get all of his albums, so you can appreciate a true master doing what he does best, making the best Texas Music around. On a personal note, I recently got the chance to shake REK's hand at a concert on his "Gravuitational Forces Tour". I framed those tickets and that table tent promotional from that concernt. The ironic thing is that it was the first, sole REK concert that I have ever been to and it took place in Tennessee. Go figure. Anway, by all means, pick up any REK album, and have a listen, you'll be gald you did!!

Its been nearly all down hill since Picnic. This album certainly picked-up where Gravitational Forces left off. Thats bad.

When I first listened to "Farm Fresh Onions," I went, "huh?". But the more I listen, the more I like it, and it has risen to one of my favorite REK albums. Great work.

Robert just keeps getting better if that's possible...this is in my opinion the best album he's made to date...the songs, the singing and playing is brilliant ...congratulations Robert and good job Rich.

I can't believe I'm writing this. I own every CD REK has ever made, (except the new one from his old label that he didn't want released)I'm going to have to agree w/some of the others. This is a couple of notches below Gravitational Forces and not even in the same area code w/Picnic. Come On Robert Earl get back to telling us stories about villans, heroes and misfits. That's when you RULE.

Party Never Ends
This is an "unauthorized" release by Spring Hill Records that apparently upset REK quite a bit. There was a story on it in the Houston Chronicle a while back. Basically, REK's former record label put out a collection of songs to which they had the rights - against the wishes of the artist himself.
