REK kicked Scott Copeland's ass a few years back at a Texas Uprising. Scott was trying to get in the concert and REK ninja kicked him in the crotch and made him sing 'Dreadful Selfish Crime' for forty minutes. It was sweet dude. Afterwards we all went to watch Kevin Fowler and we drank Shinerbock, ate tacos and drove down highway 281 top aint' it good to be alive.
I've given this album a few listens already and have to say it's one of his better ones. The thing about Keen (at least I think) is that his good songs are great and his bad songs are unlistenable (ex: Gravitational Forces). However, with this effort, the standout tracks, like Furnace Fan, Train Trek and All I Have is today, mix well with the lesser songs. The ones I mentioned should become concert standards. The songs here are very different, but at Keen's stage in his career, it's good to experiment. There is not one track on this album that I deem as "unlistenable." I definitely recommend this album to any fan of REK and anyone who says this album is anything less than "good" needs to expand their musical horizons. Although the beer-guzzling frat boys will disagree, Keen is at his best when he's avoiding the "drinking songs." Some of the songs on this album could be conceived as such but only because they put you in a good mood. Another thing this album does is hopefully freshen up the live show. I've seen Keen about a dozen times, mostly in the past 3 years, and his concerts, while a blast and unforgettable, have become a bit repetitive. For a while, I could recite the first four songs he'd play before the show would start. Anyone who is even a passing fan of Keen should definitely check this out. I rate this up there with Picnic and Gringo Honeymoon, but falls just short of classics like Walking Distance and Live No. 2 Dinner.
Farm Fresh Onions by the dozen are worth more than this CD. Dont waste your money. I've never heard more of a mail in. Could there be any less effort put into an album. At times it feels like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Good cd - best songs are 2,3,4,9,10,12
Keen's worst effort by far.
Not as good as previous Keen offerings but still a good album that stands on its own two feet. In my opinion the best songs are Out there in the middle, These years and Let the music play.
What is this? A live cd or a not so greatest hits collection?
REK is original, the way people should be...
REK sets the bar. Enough said.
