Robert Earl Keen
Artist Review
Many would think i would be the least likley to be a huge Keen fan. Im a rich 16 year old kid from Connecticut who goes to an elite bording school, why would i be into Robert Earl Keen? Well, the answer is cause i chanced upon the music, and it sure as hell is that damn good. I downloaded a bunch of his songs off the internet, and just had to hear more. I bought 4 ofhis albums and listen to him all the time. He is the only talent i have encountered so able to put a great story, great lyrics, great instrumental arangements, and great performance into his music all at the same time. His acceptance and love for other atrists has opened me up to people such as Townes VanZandt, Jerry Jeff Walker, Guy Clark, Pat Green, Roger Creager among others. Rob Earl Keen, is simply great.

This is a great album. It is one that you can listen to over and over again and never get tired of it.

Artist Review
I thought 'gravitational forces' was a really strong effort. Not every song can be a fast paced favorite like '5 pound bass' but I thought 'wild wind', and 'not a drop of rain' were real song-writing pearl even if they were not fast paced sing-along songs. I also enjoyed some of REK's covers, especially 'my home ain't the hall of fame.' I could have done without the song 'gravitational forces' which was a too bit abstract for me and the new rendition of 'the road goes on forever,' which I guess I will always think of the live version. Overall I thought this was a great effort with lots of thoughtfull songs.

I'm sorry..but those who rated this a one star record need to just listen to "Road Goes on Forever" and never buy another REK album. This one is among his best ever. "Wild Wind" is REK at his lyrical best, along with "Goin' Nowhere Blues." Folks like Pat Green and Cory Morrow could only dream of writing lyrics this deep. Robert Earl knows that he has to throw out that rowdy frat party stuff now and then, but his true love is his introspective stuff that most people just don't understand. Keep giving us the good stuff Robert Earl..we can live with the throw-ins for the drunks.

Walking Distance
This is a great album -- one you can put in, let play, and repeat over & over again and it doesn't wear thin...

Gravitational Forces
OK, so it's not exactly "West Textures." But it's an interesting glimpse in the evolution of an artist who's way more complex than many think. He doesn't seem to be afraid to try something a tad different, and that isn't a bad thing. Of course, I'm a sucker; Keen could drop a rendition of "The Road Goes on Forever" on every CD he does from here on out and I'd buy it. "Gravitational Forces" is a solid piece of work; maybe not his best, but Keen's "average" stuff is better than most artists' best.

True...the studio version of the Road Goes on Forever isn't what we fans who get fired up and spill Shiner Bock all over ourselves like about the album. The thing is that is only one song on the album. The rest of the songs take a few listens through to GET. Robert Earl Keen is a great wordsmith and musician. I have been going to his shows for years and will continue to. The one missing element....Bryan Duckworth on the fiddle....

Gravitational Forces
Sometimes Sometimes the first song says it all, Sometimes we can't hear the desert changing, Somewhere the road has to end, deep into the yellow aspen, Sometimes change is good for the soul, Sometimes the wind blows in its own way Somewhere we would like it to be raining Somehow we forget to walk out of our ruts. Someone said time will tell us what we thought we knew Sometime music gets us driftng against the storms Sometimes perfect is the sound of those who influence us, making us weigh where we have come from. Somehow our friends forget who we really were, Some reasons are never known or understood Somehow forces take us where we never have been And sometimes we still miss someone.
