To "real Texan"..... I'm sure it was goofballs such as yourself who had problems wth Buddy Holly and Wille Nelson back in their day. A "real Texan" and/or "real American" for that matter, speak their minds under any and all circumstances. Thats what freedom is and thats how freedom is maintained. Here's a question for you, if we all thought like you what should we be listening to?

I've loved your music forever. Since the first time I've heard the riff of Copperhead Road, you have been an inspiration to my music. I just have a problem with you writing about war as if you've been there and experienced true tragedy. I'm not talking about your run-in's with the law...rather your talks about doing "two tours of duty in Vietnam." I appreciate your desire to align with these situations, but don't rip the current situation as though it is even comparable to Vietnam. If you were a real American, you would maybe write something to support the soil you actually tread on. I'm a proud American who is not going position myself as a pawn writing about things I've never experienced. In the words of a truly great songwriter whose name will remain anonomous..."you write what you know and it just has show...you have to write your own destiny."

Just An American Boy - 2 CD's
Wow, this is one of the best live CD collections I have ever heard. There are some great classic Steve Earl songs, but still it captures the "coolness" of a great musician. You need to buy this ASAP!!

I have never liked country music, but when I saw the video to "I ain't ever satisfied" on CMT in 1988, I instantly became a life-long Steve Earle fan. He is probably my favorite male vocalist of all time...the sound of his singing voice is like drinking hot chocolate, snuggled on the sofa, on a rainy day. He truly understands how it feels to have his heart broken, and it comes through in the love songs he's written. He writes them without sounding maudlin.

Easily 5 stars. This CD proves that Steve is a musical genius. Authentic bluegrass music, great songwriting from start to finish. Among my top favotites in the Steve Earle collection.
