John Slaughter was born in 1981 in Houston Texas. Being raised around a family where country music was being played in nearly every room in the house, it was only fitting that John developed a love for the music. John received his first violin from his uncle at the age of nine. John’s uncle was a violin maker and swing player himself, so the world of western swing playing was introduced to John at an early age. By the time John was sixteen years old he was already playing with some of the top country bands around the Houston area. While attending college at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas John began to make his mark in the rising Texas country music scene by working with some the Lone Star State’s premier talent.
While playing in Texas, John’s talents gave him the opportunity to audition for a spot in the band of country music singer, Roger Creager. For the last four years, John has played violin, mandolin, guitar and sang harmonies for the Roger Creager Band. The Roger Creager organization has given John a wonderful stepping stool to showcase his talents. While working for Roger Creager, John has played over 600 tour dates, with attendances reaching nearly 800,000. John Slaughter’s work on Roger Creager’s “Live Across Texas” album helped the organization win Live Album of the Year in 2003. John has also played on several recording projects over the last few years, including projects for Roger Creager. Playing over 150 shows a year, along with shows in several countries.
John has also written two #1 songs on the Texas Music Charts; “I Love Being Lonesome” by Roger Creager and more recently “Pray for Rain” by Cody Johnson. Today John is venturing out into his long overdue role of band leader and front man. John’s energetic live show and strong vocals are leaving crowds pleased and wanting more.
The new record “Stay for a While” is available online and at Hastings locations. Keep a look out for this talented artist as a driving force in the country music scene for 2011!
