Hailing from a small town west of Houston, Texas, Mandi Powell is a phenomenal voice that has yet to be heard in the small world of singer/songwriters; but don't be fooled - this girl has played numerous prestigious venues in her early time as a singer/songwriter, including the Firehouse Saloon (guest of Andrew Wade Band)in Houston, Texas, Big Texas Saloon in Spring, Texas, and the infamous Hill's Cafe in Austin.
"I don't remember a time when I was not singing, or did not have an urge to," laughingly says Powell of her lifetime choice to be a singer/songwriter. "I recently saw a video a dear family friend had filmed when I was probably about 5, and even then, I knew I was at home behind a microphone and on a stage."
Powell has been writing since she was twelve, and most of her works were poems. It was not until the spring of 2009 that she decided to pick up a guitar. "I already had some theory behind me since I was a "band nerd" and a soprano in my high school choir, but growing up, times were tough. My parents really couldn't afford to pay for music lessons, so I joined my school's relatively small music programs. They really paid off."
Mandi is currently on the brink of finishing her debut album, "Tilt-a-Whirl," under Lucky Duck Records, that is due out in the spring of 2011.
