"Red River Outlaw ," the debut CD from Matt Dunnam, is the culmination of a lifetime of musical influences, resulting in heartfelt original music. Matt was born in the tiny West Texas town ofHaskell, where he grew up on a steady diet of classic country music. Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard were his earliest influences. At the age of ten, Matt moved to Austin where he was introduced to rock and Texas country music.
Matt has been singing as long as he can remember, but didn't learn to play guitar until he was in his teens. As soon as he learned to play, he was writing music. Matt teamed up with Producer Merle Bregante to transform "Red River Outlaw" into a reality .Bregante has had a great deal of success, producing CD's for Chris Wall, Reckless Kelly, and Brett Graham. Production of the CD was completed in December 1999, and it has already begun to catch the attention of music fans all over the state.
The title track, "Red River Outlaw ," shows the strong impact that Johnny Cash has had on Matt's style of song writing. The music is carefully crafted around the dramatic story of the outlaw who every young boy has dreamed of being. "Sundown," the first single, has received nothing short of a great response at Matt's performances. "Here's One" tells Matt's story and is serves as a tribute to all who have helped him throughout his career . Along with Matt's forceful, rugged music, "Red River Outlaw" also demonstrates Matt's ability to write emotionally powerful ballads. "Let My Heart Go" and "Stevie Ray and Jack" fulfill Matt's main goal for this album, to put heart and soul back into country music with songs about his life.
Matt has been performing everywhere from Stephenville to San Marcos in an effort to make a name for himself, his band, and the CD. From spring 1999, to the present, Matt and "The Number Six Band" have performed with Cory Morrow, Pat Green, Tracie Lynn, and Reckless Kelly. Bass player Justin Jones and drummer Garrett Johnson, both grew up with Matt outside of Austin. The two of them provide a solid rhythm section and foundation for Matt to work with. Brett Noake, a Victoria, Texas native, hired on with "The Number Six Band" in the spring of 1999. The four of them deliver an energetic mix of rugged hard-core country and rock in a truly unique style than can be compared to nothing else.

Justin first met Matt when he changed schools just before 8th grade. They lived two houses apart and it didn't take long for them to become very good friends. Most afternoons after school were spent listening to Motley Crue records and watching old Beta-Max movies. Matt and Justin first started out as a duo playing for beer and tips up and down 6th street in Austin. Once "Red River Outlaw" was in the can, Justin was Matt's only choice for a bass player.
The newest member of the Matt Dunnam Band, John was the founding member of 'The Ventilators,' an eclectic rock band founded in the late '80's in Ft. Worth, now based in the Hill Country.
