Philip Gibbs presents his fourth studio release, The Petroleum Age. The Austin native traces his roots in the Central Texas back to the 1870s when his uncle Barnett Gibbs first moved to the area as a state senator from Dallas, later becoming Lt. Governor and acting Governor in the 1880s. This album is as much a look at the past as a musing about how the future will regard the present. Gibbs has been performing original and other music across the U.S. for fifteen years and continues currently in support of this album.
Recently, Gibbs has been honored to have six of his songs covered by five other artists on record – four for other artists’ independent records and two for demos for Focus Features. Also, in 2005, Gibbs introduced two new songs in Austin in an extended-run Vortex Production of Sleeping Beauty, which is now enjoying a sold-out second run.
