When you go to a Texas High Life show for the first time, be ready to become addicted. The strong sounds and powerful song writing will leave you wanting more. Texas High Life got their start two years ago, when Mitch McBain (rhythm acoustic guitar) met Blake Myers (lead Vocals - Harmonica) at a local party in Cypress, Texas. The first time they met turned into a musical event. McBain had a guitar and was strumming it when Blake sat down, introduced himself, and asked, "do you know any Texas Country”, in which McBain replied, “I know Nightmare”, and the playing was on. For the next year and a half McBain and Myers would continue to collaborate on their music and songwriting. In April 2003, The Band was offered funding after an improv performance at a private party in Houston, thanks to the band that let us jam on their stage while they were on a break). Twenty minutes after their performance, they had a producer, and the band Texas High Life was born. Members were added from long friendship while living in Wimberley, Cypress and College Station Texas. Keith Binder on Drums - his brother Kevin on bass and Cory Pendleton -a good friend form the Hill Country, on electric guitar. Ever since their start, they have been rock’ in venues around the Houston area; opening for the likes of Honeybrowne and Bleu Edmonson. Their distinct sound has influence from the previous two artists, along with Cory Morrow, Reckless Kelly, Mark Davis Manders, Willie Nelsen, Waylon Jennings and other Texas greats. All in all, this band is up and coming, and they are doing it fast. In the words of Blake Myers, “Dreams are on the fly, and we’re just shooting from the hip”.

I read a few of the reviews. I agre with one reviewer that the cds are somewhat subpar BUT I did see them live w/Mark McKinney and they are much better live. I would see them again. However, cds are a way to market yourself w/o live shows and they're okay at best.

Alright jnelson, I gave it another listen. Recording quality is still sub-par and I think the songs themselves actually got worse since last time.

Don't dog on the record. Remember if it wasn't for guys like this we would have to drive to Austin for live music besides the album is great, maybe you listen to it again.
