1] Kinky the Singer: Sure, Friedman’s most notable number may be a cover song (remember his take on Chinga Chavin’s “Asshole from El Paso?”), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of vintage originals (“Ride ‘Em Jewboy,” “Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in Bed”) worth reconnecting with, too. A longtime source of comedic relief in the world of country rock, Kinky’s loveable blend of twangy Americana and satire has earned him the respect of music makers like Bob Dylan (who he toured with in 1976), Dwight Yoakam, and Lyle Lovett—not to mention a fan base that stretches far past his Texan roots.
