Larry Joe Taylor
Artist Review
Larry Joe is a great "teller of tales". A bud of mine who works in the Texas oil fields turned me on to him last year. I never go more than a few days without giving him a spin. As far as being a Buffett wannabe, bullshit. Similar in style sure, but substance wise Larry Joe can hand Jimmmy his rich ass on a platter for what he's put out in the past 10 years. Wait till you've battled addiction, divorced, lost everything you had, "hit your third coast", then you'll get him. In other words, wait until you've had more of life's experiences than following your pecker around. Larry Joe, merry Christmas brother from Jackson, Mississippi....

LJT is what Texas Music is about. Good folk, writing and singing about their experiences, lives and dreams. These jerk-offs here that don't get it well, I guess need to did a little deeper. Wake up boys and smell the coffee, your're missing the real deal!

Larry Joe Taylor is true to the music. He may be a simple songwriter, but his songs are still great. I mean, LJT has just as much on Gary P. Nun; what he writes is works for him. And he has much more heart and soul then, say, Roger Creager and Pat Green. Everyone should support him because of his trueness to Texas music.

“I will tell you, when I write one about the beach or sailing or anything like that, I know it better be a damn good one, and not just a half-assed melody with a bunch of ‘We went sailing today, had a beer, yee-hah!’ If I’m going to write a beach song, it better suit me good.” I wish LJT would stick to his quotes! His music is all half assed sailing, beer drinking songs. Headed South again? Give me a break! Write some real songs.

It seems that Larry Joe Taylor has his crowd. If you think that LJT is great, then you really need to pick up some cd's from these other fine folks. Roger Creager, Brandon Rhyder, Jason Boland, Dub Miller, Wade Bowen and the list goes on. They write songs!

Larry Joe is one of the bigger talents in Texas Music. He has written numerious great songs and is an outstanding performer himself. Add a lead guitar by John Inmon and it rarely gets better. From my limited personal exposure to Larry, he seems a sincere friendly guy doing all he can to promote Texas Music. I just do not understand why anyone who claims to like Texas music can bash him. Not a good cd. Not a good singer. Not a good songwriter.

The only thing that makes the Festivals a decent show are the "other bands". Case in point, Island Time last year. Cross Canadian Ragweed plays and then everyone leaves. LJT still has to finish the show...I have also had enough of the James/Taylor b.s. come on. Get some talent.
