We caught James Hand's performance at Riley's Tavern in Hunter,TX, just outside of New Braunfels. Willie was right, he is the real deal when it comes to the honky tonk music scene. We had the opportunity to meet him shake his hand and say hello; a really down to earth guy. His latest CD is a must for your collection. He writes most of the songs he sings; he's a natural. If you like honky tonk this guy is the best out there today, bar none.

I first saw James Hand in his hometown of Tokio when I was 18. I'd never heard anything like it before and still haven't. If you close your eyes, you'd think it WAS Hank Williams, Sr. His songs come from a place where not many people can reach, and definitely a place that those pseudo-country, Nash-vegas pop artists can reach. This is what country music was once all about and still is for some people.

This man is from a different era where music was from the heart and getting paid for singing was considered a nice bonus. I personally know James "Slim" Hand, having played rhythm guitar for him, and I thouroughly consider him the best modern day true country singer I have heard. He sends chills down my back when he fades a word he is singing into a somber moan. His Hank Williams type stage presence certainly captivates an audience. On a personal level, Hand is a true and trusted friend, whom I highly respect and admire. The hard life he as led certainly echos in his music and through thick and thin he as managed to walk away from each challenge more of man. I highly recommend any James Hand album to anyone who loves GOOD country music sung from the heart.

I was introduced to James Hand from a friend of mine from Hillsboro,TX. I really didn't dig James at first, but it began to grow on me. I went to visit that friend about a year ago in San Marcos. We went and saw James Hand at the Broken Spoke in Austin. It was definantly a night to remember, too much Pearl Light and not enough Slim!!!!
