Hayes Carll is at another level. Get his records, go see him and you too will be hooked.
I saw Hayes Carll at the White Horse with Mike McClure this past summer.
One of the best shows I've been to in a long while.
I'd only heard a few of Carll's songs before that, but that show made me a fan. I now have both of his CDs in my regular rotation!
His first cd is awesome and his second is even better. Buy the cd's....go see him live and youll agree that hayes will go down as THE Greatest singer songwriter to come out of Texas.
no joke.
Hayes Carll puts on one heckuva show! I'd travel far & wide to see him anywhere, anytime. Keep on truckin! We love what you're doin man.
He is a legend in the making! That brilliant wry look in his eye seals the deal. Cannot WAIT to see him on New Year's at the Y.O. Ranch!
Love every song on it, lyrics are great, but has anyone else had trouble with the cd quality. Every song skips a little and the cd doesnt have a scratch on it.
THIS GUY ROCKS. BOTH OF HIS ALBUMS ARE OUTSTANDING BUT HIS LIVE SHOWS ARE THE BEST. IF HE EVER COMES WITH A LIVE ALBUM I AM A BUYER FOR SURE. I WOULD DEFINITLY RECOMEND THIS CD OR ANY HAYES CD TO ANYONE.
Yeah. Saw him for the first time at The River Pub in San Marcos. It was the first time my wife and I have actually stayed for the entire set of any artist performing there. The music was hippy-ish and wonderful. If the lyrics don't make you laugh or ponder things, then you have no hope in life. I just ordered his first album and I look forward to hearing his beginning stuff. If it's anything like this album, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
Hayes offers lyrical intricacy and complexity that remind you of Guy Clark, a sense of humor that reminds you of Lyle Lovett, and a brute sincerity to life's emotions that reminds you of Townes Van Zandt.
But Hayes's early efforts indicate he will shine on his own as one of Texas's finest.
I saw him at the Americana Music Jam in 2005 and bought "Little Rock" that day. He is the Faulkner of Texas Music. Dark and cool. Sharp as a knife and vividly orignial.
