Stoney LaRue
Artist Review
Can't say enough about the talent of Stoney Larue. His cd has not left my player, and it gets better every time I listen. The only thing better than this cd is seeing Stoney live.

This is one of the best cd's I've heard in a long time. Larue does a great job of mixing country and rock with a touch of blues. You can feel some true emotion on songs like "Downtown" and "Heather Grows". I recommend this cd for anyone who is tired of the same ol' nashville crap and just wants to get back to what makes music great, heartfelt lyrics and great guitar licks.

It's a real shame that some people like to use this review column to slam the great Red Dirt we get here in Texas.. It's pretty unfair what I've read here about Ragweed, Boland and now Stoney. I guess some folks just get a kick knocking other hard-working guys in the teeth for no reason other than to make them look bad. I think Stoney's new CD sounds great and his band, while maybe a bit older, not only kicks ass but brings obvious experience to the table to help this up and coming star make his way. Keep up the good work guys....we still love you here in Texas!!

While Stoney is a great talent and a future star, his band is just not a very good fit for his talents. It seems the overrated Brad James has taken over too much control of Stoney and tries to make this band more of a medicine show rehash of faded glory days then what Stoney truely deserves. Listen to the quality (or lack thereof) in the production of this recording and enough said. Stoney's star will rise as soon as he gets rid of the "old" guys in the band and gets a group around him that can equal his energy and talent. If seen them live in shitwater (my home many years ago) and several places in Texas. Get rid of the lounge act and start kicking it like Boland.

S.L. is the next big thing to come out of the reddirt scene. A very talented songwriter he is also a soulful performer. He does spend too much time in Norman but all and all he is an allright guy. Will also use this space to tell everyone about another stillwater up and coming... Steve Rice/No Justice. This band has all the potential to make it big, see them if you get the chance.
