Outerspace
Album Review
I have to say I am disappointed. I love Susan's early stuff, but this reeks. "Happiest When I'm Moving" is much better with Jim Lauderdale's version. Susan's version takes all of the melody out. "Wide Open Spaces" is all played out - OK we get it, you wrote the song. I do like "Too Big Love", but "Stop The Bleeding" is a bit much. It goes a little past medaphoric and hits gross. Hope the next one is better.

Outerspace
Album Review
In Outerspace, I think Susan has made a cd that is traveling in the same direction as her own unique, personal style. Using skillful and mature variations in the delivery of each song, it stands out like the songwriter herself, being unique in some ways and traditional in others. Her second solo effort is packed full of a variety of styles from country to folk to simple down home roots-rock - you know, Americana. But that's not all the variety founf on this album. Saw her at a live show where she shared her definition of "Methodist Rap" in her introduction to "No Fair", 'sure to come with potato chips sprinkled on top'. I was taken by the addition of some ethereal qualities like those found on "Still Time" and felt like I was really flying in "Outerspace". She is even bold enough to experiment, where she gets major points for keeping true to her own creative vision. In looking at the liner notes, this is her most collaborative project to date with co-writers like Jim Lauderdale, "Happiest When I'm Moving"; Randy Scruggs, "Upon Re-entry" and many others. And, a live version of "Wide Open Spaces", penned by Susan, made one of the most recognized country songs of all times by the Dixie Chicks, is included. I've had it a month already and it hasn't left my cd player.

Album Review
This CD is truly amazing. From the introspective and mellow songs such as "Cactus" and "Upon Re-entry" to the absolute butt-kickin' "Sheep in Wolf's Clothing" ;-), Susan really spreads her wings and flies on this one. Pick up a copy and you won't regret it...absolutely triumphant!!!

Outerspace
Album Review
It does seem like a long time since "Chin Up" was released but the wait for "Outerspace" was well worth it. At first, it took a couple of listens to the whole album to get the whole picture but it really grows on you. There are several tracks on this album that have hit potential starting with "Happiest When I'm Moving", "Company Man" and "Together Strong" just to name a few. The songs have been patiently crafted and clearly show the growth of the songwriter. She has taken chances here to expose the other side of Susan Gibson and the pay-off is huge. Her song "Wide Open Spaces" is a legendary song now (and I really appreciate her live version included on "Outerspace"), but I maintain its not her best work. This album flows well. She'll be at Gruene Hall Saturday, July 30th from 1-5:00. Get yourself a copy. "Outerspace" earns my 5 Stars handedly. Dr. B

Album Review
For those of you who remember Susan's Groobees Days, and thought "Chin Up" was a pretty good effort --- prepared to be amazed. The long time between albums will instantly forgiven after a single listen of "Outerspace". The music is infections, and the melodies are haunting. From the opening track to Wide Open Spaces, her growth as a songwriter and musician are astounding. This CD will leaving you wanting more with every listen.
