It's not easy to pigeonhole Kinky Friedman. The singer-songwriter/detective/novelist/politico wears many hats but is most comfortable covering his dome with a black bull-rider hat.

The laid-back humorist also established an animal shelter and ran for governor of Texas four years ago -- and scored nearly 13 percent of the vote.

"Whenever I walked into a restaurant or a store, people would applaud when I was up for governor," Friedman says. "Maybe I'll run again for governor."
