Austin’s Benson named Texan of the Year

Austin Musician Ray Benson  is now bestowed with yet another honor, this time it’s the Texas Legislative Conference doling out the praise, naming him Texan of the Year.

Benson will be presented with the award Thur. Mar. 24, 2011 at a special reception in his honor at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center. Benson will be one of a handful of prominent previous honorees including Barbara Jordan, Laura Bush, Anne Armstrong and Governor Rick Perry.

The Texas Legislative Conference is a non-partisan organization of Texas business and political leaders who meet annually in New Braunfels to focus on public policy issues. This year’s topics include the State Budget, Border Security and Redistricting.

Conference Chair Sara Tays said Benson was selected for his advocacy of health for aging musicians as well as his volunteer work with multiple foundations.
