It's hard to believe Poor David's Pub has been a part of the Greenville Avenue row of clubs for more than 20 years. Hard to believe because intimate coffeehouses such as this one aren't known for surviving too long. But through the sheer force of owner David Card's personality and his shrewd business sense, the club has persevered. PDP provides a forum for a brand of artists most upper scale venues avoid – the folk-tinged singer-songwriter. Whether it's Texans Ray Wylie Hubbard and the Dixie Chicks, newcomers Slaid Cleaves and Kimmie Rhodes or veterans such as Janis Ian and Kevin Welch, Poor David's Pub is not only a place for great music, it's also the coziest corner in town. – MARIO TARRADELL / The Dallas Morning News
