If somebody ever asks you what a vintage Texas dance hall looks like, direct them to Sons of Hermann Hall. For starters, the building that houses the concert venue is a registered Dallas landmark, built in 1911. Owned and maintained by the Sons of Hermann Home Association, the hall also features a downstairs bar and restaurant complete with a jukebox, shuffle board and pool tables. But on weekends, the place to be is upstairs, where Texas acts ranging from the Derailers to the Cornell Hurd Band perform surrounded by blue velvet curtains, a hardwood floor and plenty of patrons dressed in authentic Western garb.
