Like a fine wine Brett Mouton keeps getting better with time. At the age of 23 this Houston based singer-songwriter has just released his first complete album “Better With Time.” Brett’s music is a unique blend of country-western, folk, and Americana that truly transcends a single genre. Songwriting has always been Brett’s true passion. His simple and honest depictions of the highs and lows life has to offer strike a chord with anyone who lends an ear. Brett was born in southern Louisiana and raised on an eclectic blend of southern rock and country. He inherited his talent and love for performing from his father who played in numerous bands in southern Louisiana. Before finding his niche in music Brett tried his hand in the offshore oilfields of the Gulf of Mexico. These experiences still have a strong presence in his songwriting today. In 2002 Brett planted his roots in Houston and has since made a substantial impact on the local music scene. Since then Brett has spent his time wherever there is music to be played or listened to, while trying to find his own sound. His new release “Better With Time” stands as proof that his work ethic and genuine love for music has paid off. The dedicated following Brett has built in the Houston area has inspired him to spread his influence to a larger audience. Brett is determined to expand his fan base and pack venues across the state. With the quality of his music and energy of his performances the possibilities are truly endless.

Albert Moyer
To all Brett Mouton fans. My name is Albert Moyer and I am Brett's former drummer. I have never written a bad review nor am I a disgruntled musician. I left Brett Mouton to pursue other musical interests and to play more often. Brett and I had business differences that had nothing to do with music. I wish him well in his musical pursuits. As far as playing vs. not playing, I am already with Grand Texas and we have three shows booked through September 10 and more on the way. We do traditional country, cajun, and swing. For those who enjoyed my playing check out my site at http://home.sprynet.com/~amoyer for tour dates. A note for others who do reviews and try to start trouble. Place your name on the review and quit trying to hide behind an alias.

First of all, your "reviewer name" is Cowpoke. Second, it seems odd that you would know that the band plays for "peanuts"..how might someone know that unless they actually were part of the band...or were you? Maybe this is a disgruntled ex-band member....just something to ponder. Playing for peanuts VS. not playing at all.

Saw these guys a few different times.. same feeling each time..just not something I want to hear when I walk into a honky-tonk.. maybe the Mucky Duck or some quasi-folk joint, but it's definitely not two-steppin material... potentiality for greatness definitely exists.. soon as these kids decide to stop being a beer band and settling for peanuts, get serious and dedicated.. something might happen.. until then, count on me spreading the truth and keeping everyone I know out of the bar when these hacks are on stage.

I saw the band in Rosenberg and I was truly entertained and had a great time. Their sincerity and passion for what they do shows in their performance. Like the title track they are getting "better with time". Looking forward to hearing them again this Thursday June 22nd at El Jarrito in Katy. As for opinions well they are like sphincter muscles and Firehouseman must have had his elsewhere. Because a rising tide lifts all boats and improvement with this band rests with the drummer.

I disagree with Firehouseman's comments about Brett's show in Rosenberg. How can you have to choose between being a singer and being an entertainer? It takes both of those traits to make it up on that stage. Brett has great singing/songwriting ability, his entire band are great musicians, and they are all entertainers. If you haven't seen them or heard them yet you need to.

It's been a long time since I had the opportunity to catch Brett Mouton live with his full band. The band that backs him has improved drastically. They actually carry Brett quite a bit. The show they put on at the Lonestar Saloon in Richmond was at times exciting and at times boring. Brett seems to be in a stage of deciding whether he wants to entertain or just play songs. Fortunately, for him he has a hell of a guitar player and drummer that can fire things up in a pinch and add some excitement into songs that sometimes all sound the same. I look forward to catching these guys down the road and see how they grow.

I saw this group in Fredericksburg. They were great--energetic and fun. I like their sound.

I saw these guys at the Lone Star Saloon the other night. Wow. Energy and pasion was shining bright as I have ever seen. I was able to see one of there first shows as a band and I must say, they were not very good. Over the last few months they must have been hard at work developing their own sound. I must say I am impressed. I left with a CD that has not stoped spining since that night. Good Job boys!

I agree with the last review for the most part, but I'd add that the songs toward the end of the CD are a bit quirkier, maybe a little more personal and comedic in places. It's not just a good CD, it's an interesting one.
